Time mag wrote that the '00's were the worst decade EVAR! I can't deny that, but they ain't seen nothing yet.

Folks, you are going to be in pain. Pain Pain Pain. How can I say it? You're going to be hurting.

I can see it, and so can most of you. Hell, I'll skin a kitten just for fun, but the pain you all are going to be in actually brings a tear to my eye.

You may as well get a head start on everyone else. Start thinking about what it really means to be an American. Start thinking about what it really means to be a human being. Start realizing that you have a choice. You can't be both.

We're going to discover that it's becoming physically impossible to be an American. The laws of thermodynamics prevent it. Or maybe it's karma. Or maybe we'll just be the first empire in history destroyed by stupidity.

So I would recommend that you choose to be a human being. Being an American isn't going to be very easy in the next decade.

Happy New Year, a little early.

Obama will be famous as the last President of the United States. I wonder if he already knows.

Bush/Cheney was a self inflicted wound (0)

which would have been immediately fatal if had been Gore/Lieberman.. which probably would have been a good thing. You guys had it right.. we should've gone with McCain and put the dog to sleep once and for all. This lingering death really sucks.

Damn right! Bow down to me!

Oh, and PMF, your comment in the other journal is spot on - I'm ready to give up too. Being a selfish prick sounds like a lot less hassle these days.

In fact, the last President (1)

Was Kennedy. The programme has been running at least this long. We are seeing the harvest of that fruit, tenderly cultivated from its seed - first purchased in 1899.

You are really very right, 'tho. No need to pick at nits. There have been a few JE writers tracking this since the 911 era began. I think Blackhat and JS7a were early in the acuteness of their insight and understanding, one with ironic distance and the other still smarting with that sense outrage that motivates resistance. Zogger, Jeremiah Cornelius and eno2001 were also harbingers, I think all still posting.

I wish you were all wrong.

Jeremiah Cornelius is an unreliable putz. But that's the way you write him, isn't it?

Eh.. Shit happens. There's always the next life.

Whew. That was great. Thanks for that.

What you really need is a sense of perspective. Maybe an all expenses paid tour of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Tibet, Somalia, Colombia, etc., etc.

Ha. Ha. Gasp, gasp. Whew.

Did I say this would be painful for Somalians? No. It's pain for Americans.

How could the next decade be any worse? The last decade had 8 years of Bush/Cheney.

Unless you think the whining will hurt even more.

There, you would have me.

That was just the warmup.

The next decade will require every American to first realize that the Empire is finished, making their own idea of what being an American entails completely contrary to reality.

The second phase is that Americans will be required to invent a brand new idea of what it means to be American.

This will be absolutely hilarious to watch, trust me.

The third phase will be a collective shock as our complete lack of imagination is apparent.

The fourth phase involves a lot of praying, tithing to the church, astrology, and witch hunts.

You're one of those who thinks that the best is yet to come? Sure, if you're a horror fan.

Actually, the best is yet to come. And the worst is yet to come. And predicting that the next decade will be notably worse for Americans than the last is not thoughtful, it is (IMHO) a troll or flippant.

Ciao,

If your battleship just hit a mine and the keel is broken, it's hardly a troll or flippant to point out that the first class cabins might need a few extra towels.
