Is it just me or is Slashdot really really hard to use now?

User Journal 2

I'm trying to submit a news story about Microsoft charging for Linux and a company actually paying for it... with links... carefully crafted... and I can't submit it because the server says I must wait to submit it.

This is the first story I've submitted in years.

Why do I have to wait?

I haven't commented here in *hours*

If all this is to get people to use slashdot less then I'd say it's working.

No, wait, you're right.

Anyway, makes sense. We're not the customers. We're just bait for advertisers.

Bingo. Slashdot is here to serve us, like "To Serve Man" was.

This site must be an udder cash cow. If you think about it, web sites are in the business of delivering content and receiving ad revenue for viewership. And like the TV networks found out with going to "reality" shows in primetime, vastly cheaper content is better, as it means greater profits, even with less-satisfied viewers and less of them period. The business model of this site has to be the most lucrative -- all they have to do is pick inflammatory user-written summaries (and flamebait them up a little, as some editors here are so obvious about they've become famous for) of news and opinion created by someone else, and keep the servers running and provide an environment for people to argue over them. Is there frequent racial and homophobic slurs and anti-semitism and other tarnishing of the image of the site here? Sure, but if the advertisers don't care, then the people who run it don't. Mod-abuses, slashvertisements, chronically broken UI's, who cares, it's all good cuz the money must be rolling in. The dot is so fat and happy, they've never addressed how you can avoid their ads simply by not enabling JavaScript. I guess if the advertisers don't know about it, they get paid all the same.
