Journal PeterClark's Journal: Friendly insanity

If you are reading this, it's probably because you discovered that I your fan. You are probably wondering, "Who is this guy, and why is he my fan?" Well, the plain and simple truth is that I decided to see what would happen if I toyed with this "friends" system. Here are the rules I operate under:
  • If you post to a story that I am reading and your id number is less than 100,000, you are a friend.
  • If you post to a story that I am reading and you are either a friend of a friend or a foe of a friend, you are a friend.
  • If I reply to you, you are a friend.
  • If you reply to me and get a score higher than 2, you are a friend.

Next obvious question: why? I don't know. I'm bored. Why not? Ever since karma scores were replaced by descriptions, the new hot thing is to collect as many fans as possible. Uh, right. This is Slashdot. It doesn't matter how many fans you have in the big grand scheme of things. It doesn't even matter in the small insignificant scheme of things. I'm not convinced that the friend/foe system adds any value or interest apart from pretty little colored buttons. (Ooh! Shiny!) But it's there, and I intend to abuse it. I wonder how many friends I can collect before I drag my account to its knees...
