Red Flayer's Journal: Notes to self re: slashdot conversations

Well, it's happened again. I let myself get caught up in another "debate" with someone who has last-word-itis.

This time, it was Pudge. I've got to remember to stop reading his comments... they're infuriating, because he sometimes make good points, but tends to imply or assume invalid statements to lead to his insight. And heaven forbid that you call him out on his assumptions, or you'll spend the better part of two days' free time going back and forth while he makes sure that he can out-endure you for last post status (if you have the last post, apparently you win the discussion!).

Well, now I've finally gotten around to marking him as a foe, so I'll have a nice clear visual reminder not to get involved in a time-wasting discussion with him.

It just bothers me that, as a slashdot editor, he's got some additional weight to what he says... he gets upmodded a lot for very questionable posts. And if you disagree with him, it tends to be an automatic down-mod (not sure how that happens, I know a lot of the fundie capitalists/anarchists on slashdot have mod points, too), no matter how well-written or polite the response is.

But, no matter... maybe if I find myself in another discussion with him, I'll troll him with facts and just take satisfaction in his apoplexy.

He is never, ever wrong. Ever. The other thing about being an editor is that he doesn't have a time limit on his comments. So while you're waiting around for a couple minutes between posts he's spamming the board. He's really just a Republican homer caught up in his own narrow, self-rightous world. Definitely not worth the time.

I know... but that little spark of idealism I have left just doesn't like to see his BS go unchallenged. Especially since it seems there are an army of like-minded moderators who will boost him regardless of the veracity of his posts.

First of all, if you complain about Pudge you may find his troll-fans will come and accuse you of being me.

Second, if you foe him before he foes you, then he wins. I would suggest you immediately un-foe him and wait until he foes you before you re-foe him (though I would suggest instead you not foe him at all). His list of freaks continues to grow, and it adds to his unending claim of being an "oppressed minority" here. If you instead have no relationship with him, then he can't add you to his list of p

Yeah, I see what you're saying... I just think I'm done in terms of considering him anything other than a last-post script. If he derives some benefit from me marking him as foe, I'm OK with that. It's more important to me that I avoid wasting time and effort with the Pudge script.

That explains my "flamebait" mod for my post agreeing with him on the bill being lousy but taking issue with the "CBO says premiums stay essentially static" thing. They had to lash out at someone.

If I had to analyze Pudge, and analyze those like him, I suspect repressed guilt over what they did (or think they did) has overtaken repressed homosexuality as the number one cause of being a right-wing asshole.
