Journal damn_registrars's Journal: Slashdot Panders to the ConservaTrolls Again... 11

The main ad I am seeing on the slashdot front page today reads Obama Care Stop Him vote now (going to newsmax.com). It has an oh-so-brilliant picture of President Obama in a suit wearing a surgery cap. In fact, it is so far the only ad I have seen on the front page today.

I do find it interesting that now newsmax.com is calling it "Obama Care" rather than the previous name of "ObamaCare". I guess if they invent a (slightly) new word they can avoid defining it even longer? I guess I should just be surprised that while they did write his name in red, they forgot to include a hammer & sickle in the image.

In the meantime I am still waiting to see the first liberal ad on slashdot.

Slashdot Panders to the ConservaTrolls Again...

  • turn off ads.

Back in the day, nobody put ads on gopher. Or that thing that displaced it, what is it called, the "world wide web"? You would get flamed so bad!

I am happily stuck in time, preserved in amber, skipping basically all ads. Though I do use search to find the best price and competitive products and comparisons and reviews.

    Peace, brother!

    • turn off ads

That's the solution. I subscribe to Slashdot (it's really cheap!) and then just block the ads on most pages.

But you're right, damn_registrars. "Conservatrolls" are working very hard to co-opt Slashdot. It's up to us to stand in their way, friend.

Indeed I am a subscriber as well - I think that is what the asterisk (or "spark" if you're at Wally-World) after my name denotes. And as we know the subscribers also get to do other things with their journals that non-subscribers cannot - like restricting who can post. Some may recall I used to use that privilege extensively some time ago.

I think you have the wrong tense in all of those. The Conservatrolls have already taken over. At least once or twice a week there will be an article on the front pag

        • Has it come to that? Are nerds actually conservative?

I recall being sad when I realized that on the whole, college students had become conservative. Maybe it has swung away from that (as the years pass, I get less connected to the college mind set), due to such egregious examples of conservatism like Cheney and Scalia, and incompetence like Bush II, but I remember sorrow.

I am _really_ cheap. I do not subscribe, and I do block ads.

Actually, it is not just being cheap.

I figure if I subscribe, some of the money would encourage those slashdot programmers to continue to do whatever it is they do.

The subscription fee is so small that I doubt it would even cover the red bull bill for 20 minutes. But I recognize the desire to block all ads. I do so as well, except in rare cases where I want to show a little gratitude for "whatever it is they do".

Plus, "whatever it is they do" is something entertaining.

          Nice talking to you, Jimmy.

Suggest you just sit there and wait till life gets easier.
