DailyKos defending the 2nd Amendment!!?! When did I enter BizzaroWorld?

In this posting on DailyKos they make the very blunt point that Liberals SHOULD be supportive of the Second Amendment. Of course, back home in my world, that is about as likely as tom cats volunteering for neutering.

I will say this: while I usually disagree with much of what DailyKos publishes, I have respected, and do respect the fact that they are quite open about their biases and beliefs - I'd far rather deal with somebody I *know* has a bias than somebody who tries to bullshit me about being "fair". And their recent handling of the polling scandal was refreshing - too many entities (on BOTH the radical right and the radical left!) would have whipped out the old Dustbuster and started sweeping that under the rug at the first opportunity.

So, on this day off, in celebration and remembrance of our hard-won freedoms in this country, I salute you, DailyKos - while I may disagree with much of what you say, I shall fight to the death if needed to protect your right to say it - and I am glad you (or at least some of you) feel the same!.

Yep, us liberal weenies value gun control quite a bit lower than you've been led to believe.

Sadly, money in politics is just as tightly a guarded perk. Oh well!

if sign(liberal::Value(Politics::Gun_Control)) != -1 then you are doing it wrong, IMHO. A right you can be prevented from exorcising is a right you do not have. "Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a phone call... if you're unable to speak? " [] Or, from Zorro, the Gay Blade, "Yes, you have freedom of speech. Kill anybody who listens!"

You'd think that 8 years of the chimp and company would have gotten dems/liberals hip to the fact that a rogue government could go absolutely nutz..and that they might need some protection.

You'd also think that..say..noticing that one of the bluest of blue cities-chicago-has like five times the violence than the entire mostly red state of georgia has, with much less restrictive gun laws, might have started to sink in by now. We just don't get that level of random mass shooting, the perps would get peppered out on the street here by the random righteous citizens who carry. Where they have way too much unchecked areas like metro atlanta. Never fails, coddle them, push non reality over reality, you get problems. Chicago has street gangs totally out of control, so their solution is to ban hand guns from the honest people? WTF they smoking and snorting and drinking in combo to get to that? They have "gun violence" because decades of coddling based on race alone *didn't work*. All they have to show for it is massively large street gangs. And a history of being a one party controlled local government, with massive corruption going back to the real mafia days, doesn't help either. So..instead of a real crackdown on gangs, just do it and get it over with, they try mild social engineering and pleading with stone killers and obvious life long no goodniks. Doesn't work, so they want to punish the non criminals more...does..not..compute.

that daley is sure dizzy...

All I remember is back in the day, that people protesting this or that knew full well what the second was for, and groups like the panthers, etc, definitely part of the left wing then, were upfront and obvious about it.

Not sure what changed, but a lot of dems (and euro "subjects") seem to have been mind altered to become willing victims, ignoring street crime thinking they are immune..until they aren't..and failing to notice that various governments always turn out to be the ultimate bad guys against their own people. In all the history books and stuff. goes all the way back. Hopefully, this will change back with a little more reading and logic-ing things out.

I'm pretty much a social liberal, but that ends when it comes to threats against person or immediate friends/family/neighbors. Being a victim does not fit my job title or social duties. Freeking amoebas grok self defense and the necessity thereof, so humans that don't..I question that rather strongly. I don't trust governments all that much, nor criminal gangs, etc to have my best interests at heart.

People who trust their government to always be nicey-nice to them..we have a phrase for those folks..holocaust victims. Just because it hasn't happened to them for a few generations they seem to think it will never happen again. I mean, duh....wishful thinking.

You need to also remember that Chicago is a MAJOR hub for the distribution of contraband. And the gangs are frequently part of a cartel that has official protection. The politicians have every incentive to keep that golden goose alive. I can assure you that's the real reason for their problems. The police union is also very powerful, and they want to create an atmosphere of dependence to negotiate a more lucrative contract. Canada has many urban gun restrictions too, without nearly as much violence. On the other hand, look at Mexico with extreme gun control... more people dying there each year than in Afghanistan. The real coddling of criminals is within City Hall itself.. In fact, I don't find the tone of your post all that palatable. Maybe you should obfuscate your code a bit more... that or tell us what you really think.

And before you might misconstrue what I'm saying, I do believe that gun control comes with practice, preferably at the range, not the streets.
