Journal Corporate Troll's Journal: Are you for real? 4

Developer to me (laptop boss is busted, so I'm trying data recovery first):

You're booting with Linux to recover data? That's not going to work because Linux doesn't read FAT32...

*blink*

I couldn't even grasp what he was talking about. Any recent Windows system uses NTFS and second, Linux can read FAT32 and NTFS just fine, thank you very much....

Did these people even try Linux recently?!? (Or Windows, for the matter?)

  • As long as he blinking lights work, they don't care. Nor should they, really.

I find that geeks who do hardware are a very small subset.
    • I think that if you work as developer or as a sysadmin, you should know at least the basics. Basically, if you do more that just reboot machines you should know.... Doubly so if you're touting to have a computer science diploma.
      • Sysadmin maybe, although if you think in military terms, a good general doesn't micromanage if he doesn't have to, he has trusted lieutenants for that.

Developers, not at all, IMO. They're coders. If they gave a shit about hardware, they probably would have started their own company instead of working for someone else.
        • .... I have been a developer for 10 years. I always care about the hardware and what was underlying hardware. It made me a better developer than the rest...
