More BillDog, less RailGunner

snowgirl (978879) writes | more than 3 years ago

I want more people like BillDog to have the perspective, and voice of the right. People like RailGunner take the rhetoric up to 11, and it drowns out all the sanity of their arguments.

At least BillDog is willing to sit down discuss things rationally, understand your point of view... and then dismiss you as evil. (Kidding, slightly... ok, I'm joshing with a bit of fact, and a bit of fiction.)

Another liberal bitching about me in a journal entry.

I keep this up and I'll beat Pudge's record.

Re:Hey Look (2)

snowgirl (978879) | more than 3 years ago | (#34960358)

Pudge already has at least one more Journal Entry from me ahead of you.

It is odd though, that you don't seem to have a problem with being an asshole... of course, that's because you're so arrogant as to believe that you're right and no one can possibly prove you wrong, right?

Re:Hey Look (0)

Yeah, but unlike Pudge I still have a creepy obsessed gay stalker troll, so I think I'm catching up in terms of volume of JE's dedicated to moi.

As far as your insult... meh. I've been called much worse.

Fact is.. I am right, and I back it up with facts and logical arguments.

Every position I have, I can explain WHY I have that permission. Can you?

Take abortion. Have you ever really thought about why you support abortion, or were you trapped by the "my body my choice" soundbite?

If you are an abortion because you're a feminist, what about the female children murdered via abortion in China and India?

I've considered abortion, and here's why I'm against it:

At the moment of conception, a life form is created that is biologically alive. Cellular activity can be observed, as well as cellular division.

The DNA of this organism is human, and not a match of the mother. Unquestionably, this is human life.

Usually pro-abortion people will bring up miscarriages. Then I remind them that people die of natural causes every day - which is totally different from being a murder victim.

So, tell me. I'm a good listener. Why are you for abortion?

Fact is.. I am right, and I back it up with facts and logical arguments.

Of course you are. You're always right. I'd like to congratulate you on being Jesus, because you know, he was the only perfect human being.

Every position I have, I can explain WHY I have that permission. Can you?

Why yes, I can.

Take abortion. Have you ever really thought about why you support abortion, or were you trapped by the "my body my choice" soundbite?

Because thousands of women died while abortions were illegal, because they were determined to get an abortion no matter what, and got risky and dangerous abortions that resulted in their death.

If you are an abortion because you're a feminist, what about the female children murdered via abortion in China and India?

Selective abortion to ensure a male heir is wrong, but I wouldn't make it illegal, because that will just result in the deaths of women determined to get one.

At the moment of conception, a life form is created that is biologically alive. Cellular activity can be observed, as well as cellular division.

These same cellular activities are possessed by MRSA, and all other bacteria. Should we ban antibiotics then?

The DNA of this organism is human, and not a match of the mother. Unquestionably, this is human life.

It's human life that is totally and entirely dependent upon its mother's biological functions to survive. We should not relegate a woman to an unwilling baby incubation tube for a moment of indiscretion.

Also, there are cases where the baby's life is threatening the mother's life. We already find it lawful and ethical to separate conjoined twins, when the lives are both are threatened by remaining together. Even when it is known that one of the twins will die as a result of the separation.

Which brings me to...

Usually pro-abortion people will bring up miscarriages. Then I remind them that people die of natural causes every day - which is totally different from being a murder victim.

Moral questions are a great deal more complicated than "murder is always wrong."

So, tell me. I'm a good listener. Why are you for abortion?

As already stated: women die getting illegal abortions. It's called "harm reduction". Personal privacy and such is entirely secondary points. Making abortions illegal directly threatens the lives and safety of thousands of women.

If you want to cut down abortions, start working on a better choice than endangering womens lives, like instead spend money on contraception education, and family planning. If handing out a million condoms prevents only just one abortion, isn't that a worthy cause?

There is a better choice. Don't have sex if you aren't willing to get pregnant and have a child. The correlation between sex and pregnancy is almost universally known among the population of the entire planet.

Yes, I know there are cases and even entire cultures where the woman doesn't have a choice about that. Those are rare in the U.S. and I have mixed feelings about what to do about it.

For everyone else in developed nations, like the United States, that succumbs to their hormones like dogs in heat, I've got little sympathy. My wife and I didn't have a child until we were ready. We always used protection and furthermore, we *abstained from sex* when she was most fertile by monitoring her ovulations.

We're humans. We can be driven by our intellect, not our hormones, if we choose.

Good job on using protection when you had sex... you know, contraceptive education, and Planned Parenthood in specific do actually teach abstinence, right?

The difference is that they teach people what to do if you've decided to break ones abstinence.

I think that option is much more appropriate than saying, "don't have sex, and if you do, you're getting a disease, dying, and the girl is getting pregnant."

We're humans. We can be driven by our intellect, not our hormones, if we choose.

We are driven by our intellect, which is why, for instance, motorcyclists wear protection. It's call risk mitigation. Imagine the outcry if motorcycle teachers didn't teach people to wear appropriate gear and to be super crazy cautious on the road. Rather, they just said, "just don't ride your motorcycle, and you won't get in a motorcycle accident!"

If that analogy is entirely loony and crazy, then why not teach risk mitigation for sex?

Re:Hey Look (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 3 years ago | (#34962690)

Cue RG bragging about how republicans have been Fighting The Good Fight against Mommy Government by repealing seat belt laws and safety regulations so your analogy is totally spot on and not loony at all!

There is another important difference between Bill Dog and RailGunner that you overlooked - at least in this journal entry. Bill Dog honestly believes what he writes here, and honestly believes that the schism he sees between "left" and "right" is as fundamental as good and evil - and irreconcilable.

RailGunner, on the other hand, believes nothing that he writes here. He intentionally posts contradictory information through the guise of a conservative idiot here, and throws conservative hissy fits to make the "right" look like idiots. Really, the only question regarding him that is worth asking is why someone is putting so much energy into making conservative windbags look stupid on slashdot - we have plenty of conservative windbags around who can do that on their own (OK, we used to have more, but there is still plenty of conservative nuttery in any front page conversation here).

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooh. I get it now. He's a parodist. Stupid Poe's Law...

Ok, so now that I know that he's just doing it for the jollies, I can just ignore him, right?

Re:Call a Spade a Spade (1)

damn_registrars (1103043) | more than 3 years ago | (#34962288)

He's a parodist.

You could say that, yes. Although Weird Al is a true parodist, and I wouldn't insult Weird Al by suggesting this guy belongs in the same class (if Weird Al scores a 10 on the humor scale, this guy pulls about 1.5 on a really good day), I think it is generally more fair to call this guy a troll.

Ok, so now that I know that he's just doing it for the jollies, I can just ignore him, right?

That is one option you have. I took a slightly different tack and added him to my friend list - then I get a message on slashdot anytime he posts a new journal entry. Why might I want to be updated on a troll's journal entries you might ask? Because they seem to often come out on otherwise dull days for me at work, and they often make me laugh when I imagine someone trying to actually express those opinions with a straight face (which sadly doesn't seem to be him primary aim) !

But yes, ignoring him is a safe option, as well.

Oh, and congratulations on being mentioned directly in one of his journal entries. He didn't do that with me until shortly before I came to realize he's as phony as a three dollar bill; hence it looks like caught his attention more quickly.

His rhetoric is the same as the people that make me want to puke... sure they're funny for like half a minute, but then their glaring misinformation starts pissing me off, and then I get into horrible gut wrenching arguments with them... the kind where you dread even refreshing your comment list, because all you're going to do is see more idiot rhetoric.

Oh, and congratulations on being mentioned directly in one of his journal entries. He didn't do that with me until shortly before I came to realize he's as phony as a three dollar bill; hence it looks like caught his attention more quickly.

This is like congratulating me that my cancer is spreading faster than yours. I would rather not have another stupid bat-shit right-wing nut to deal with.

His rhetoric is the same as the people that make me want to puke... sure they're funny for like half a minute, but then their glaring misinformation

Sometimes it helps to remember that he is fully aware that he is providing misinformation. He knows that the special brand of logic he presents holds less water than a screen door. He's getting laughs out of making the conservative cause look so absurd. You can opt to play along, or you can opt to ignore him.

and then I get into horrible gut wrenching arguments with them

I don't think you're reading his replies correctly if the discussions with him end up "gut wrenching". Perhaps "vomit inducing" might be reasonable, but I think you might be playing incorrectly if it is actually tearing at you to the point of being gut wrenching.

Really, a discussion with him should be enjoyable. You should get some laughs out of it - especially if you can get him to bring out any "sources".

Oh, and congratulations on being mentioned directly in one of his journal entries. He didn't do that with me until shortly before I came to realize he's as phony as a three dollar bill; hence it looks like caught his attention more quickly.

This is like congratulating me that my cancer is spreading faster than yours.

I wouldn't compare him to cancer. Whooping cough, perhaps; or even malaria. Although really he's more like a mild case of gout - you stop eating the shit that brought it on, and you have a good chance of the symptoms going away.

I would rather not have another stupid bat-shit right-wing nut to deal with.

Perhaps it is time for you to step away from the fake for a while, then. While he will eventually delete his journal entries, his comments will remain (as well as the comments he posts in the journal entries that he will delete). So if the game with him isn't fun for you now, you can always come back to it later and get a laugh.

That's pretty much how I operate anymore. I know I can't take a lot of the BS, so I just kind of push it away for awhile... I have to have it in small doses, or my "allergies" flair up.

Nothing about the person and their rhetoric is harmful to me, it just causes an autoimmune response, with my mind flying into a tizzy over it for no good reason.

In a similar vein... (1)

damn_registrars (1103043) | more than 3 years ago | (#34965232)

a parodist

A good parodist will make a parody to amuse others. This guy, however, makes a parody to amuse himself. From his point of view, amusing others is just a happy side effect, and if it happens not at all then oh well. He fits well within the slashdot definition of troll [slashdot.org] :

A Troll might mix up vital facts or otherwise distort reality, to make other readers react with helpful "corrections." Trolling is the online equivalent of intentionally dialing wrong numbers just to waste other people's time.

Re:Call a Spade a Spade (1)

RailGunner (554645) | more than 3 years ago | (#34965388)

No, I am not a parodist. damn_registrars claims this in an effort to try and discredit me, because he's still got serious butthurt from the last time I stomped him in a debate.

In other words, damn_registrars is a miserable little piece of shit.

Well, if it's true that you actually believe your BS, then you truly are dead from the neck up. There's just no other way, other than being a sociopath. Soon we will neutralize your weapons, and then you will no longer be able to keep anybody out of your restricted little club. White privilege is coming to an end there, pal. You're going to have to sit at the table with a.... nigger! Oh, my! What ever will you do?

Re:Call a Spade a Spade (1)

No, I am not a parodist.

I think we are in agreement there for reasons I already stated. You may be a parody, but you are undoubtedly not in the leagues of any great parodists, past or present.

But either way, you are a fake. Possibly a glutton for punishment as well, but nonetheless a total and complete fake.

try and discredit me

Rather difficult to discredit something that has no credit to begin with...

he's still got serious butthurt

I'm not sure what you think you did to my butt - or why you are interested in it. I guess this may just be your homophobia charade falling apart.

the last time I stomped him in a debate

I would like to know when this fictitious debate occurred.

In other words, damn_registrars is a miserable little piece of shit.

Oh, I get the joke this time. You're showing the hypocrisy of your earlier JE on how "kind" the liberals are - by playing the part of an arrogant, uninformed, and insulting conservative.

I gotta hand it to you, few people have succeeded in playing out a role for this long. Although Stephen Colbert has been playing his role for some 13 years [wikipedia.org] , so your mark is not unsurpassed.

Re:Call a Spade a Spade (1)

You respond just like I would expect someone with a serious case of butthurt to respond.
As far as which debate, how about the Stimulus one? Remember how you'd get all butthurt when I referred to it as Porkulus?

So what's the unemploymnt rate again? Yeah, Porkulus failed. Miserably. Told you it would, and now you're all butthurt that your guy Obama comletely sucks.

You know, just like I told you he would.

Re:Call a Spade a Spade (1)

damn_registrars (1103043) | more than 3 years ago | (#34972140)

As far as which debate, how about the Stimulus one?

I certainly don't recall such a discussion (no discussion with you is ever worthy of being called a "debate") resulting in anything resembling a "victory" for you. If anything your constant dodginess and habit of trying to redefine everything in sight was laughable - although again perfectly in character for you. If you thought that you somehow caused "butthurt" in the discussion, you should be able to easily provide a reference to the discussion - it is easier for you to find it in your comment history than in mine since you have such a large message-free time gap in your history.

But of course, providing sources for anything is decidedly out of character for you, so I don't expect that you will do it.

Remember how you'd get all butthurt when I referred to it as Porkulus?

Nope, I have no such recollection. I recall you calling it that name, but the symptoms you describe do not coincide with reality - as usual.

Then again, reality doesn't match your character, either.

So what's the unemploymnt rate again?

Pretty well the same as it was immediately after the 2008 election. In other words, the great economic Armageddon you predicted has not come. However what has changed dramatically is the rate of change of unemployment - it was a very dramatic increasing rate under GWB and a much more flat rate now.

Of course, math is not a strong suit for your character.

Re:Call a Spade a Spade (1)

RaiIGunner (1973954) | more than 3 years ago | (#34983900)

You damned libtards, you must have short memories. Of course we all know that facts are not your strong suit anyways.

So here's a clue for the clueless leftoid that you are. I won't refer to it because you need to learn how to use google anyways. I kept calling you a libtard - because you are clearly one - and you kept challenging my use of words like porkulus and socialism. I told you that you were too stupid to understand such complex words anyways, and you eventually admitted defeat.

Butthurt central you entered immediately afterwards and never left since.

You are correct. In fact, I cannot stand the people of his ilk. Even though they're humorous for about 8 point 5 seconds, they quickly wear upon me until I want to start tearing hair out of my head...

I've destroyed keyboards arguing with people like them...

Re:I take it (1)

countertrolling (1585477) | more than 3 years ago | (#34966514)

Eh, to me, it's all water off a duck's back.. He, Rush, Beck, etc, are all shtick, their fans are loons. Just like with RG there, the party's (or religion) the shtick, led by a psychotic charismatic, and he's the fanatic. Got the same with the "liberal" right wingers who think they're actually liberal, and people like RG can't see anything past them. That's the edge of his flat earth. I find him hard to take seriously because I just don't want to believe people are that dumb. Then I read some of the warning labels out there, and I guess I'll just have to accept the truth.

I cannot stand the people of his ilk... I've destroyed keyboards arguing with people like them...

Hmm, I don't suppose any of my observations on that are worth noting then :) I mean, other than getting a heavier keyboard?

Re:I take it (1)

Just like with RG there, the party's (or religion) the shtick, led by a psychotic charismatic, and he's the fanatic.

Being a Germanophile, I carry the very strong anti-psychotic-charismatic-leader trait, just like the Germans themselves. Incendiary rhetoric like his and theirs upset me, because Germans and Germanophiles know just how badly letting a charismatic leader into power can be.

I'm not saying that anyone is as bad as a particular party, or leader... I have no evidence to support that particular position. Rather what I'm saying is that someone really fucked up the playing field for that group of people, and it is simply not worth the risk.

Re:I take it (1)

countertrolling (1585477) | more than 3 years ago | (#34967256)

Always remember that "incendiary rhetoric" is a non issue when compared to the response. Ultimately that's all that matters. The best response to a charismatic is to turn your back. If they have your attention at all, they have you. Trying to "take him out" will only result in a replacement. You have to confront the irrationality directly. Focus on the followers. They need therapy, not a lecture. (Yes, RG needs help, not condemnation.. remember he acts on conditioned reflex, very pavlovian... judge not.. bla bla bla) Once you break the spell, there is nothing to fear from any demagogue.
