Journal ncc74656's Journal: The liberal mindset in one easy video 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF3hbPtCttc
Title cribbed from here. A sample that I transcribed...let's call the protagonists Alice and Bob:
Bob: You said the "right-wing media" was becoming too powerful.
Alice: Yes. We need the Fairness Doctrine to return a balance to talk radio.
Bob: How does it work?
Alice: The government makes things fair.
Bob: How?
Alice: I don't know the details, but it ends with Rush Limbaugh being forced off the air.
Bob: What don't you like about him?
Alice: He uses hate speech.
Bob: Like what?
Alice: He criticizes liberals.
Bob: How is that "hate speech?"
Alice: Because I hate it.
How does it force Rush off the air? (Score:1)
I don't know. I'm making shit up...
Ol' boy's shirt pockets look kind of.. strange, to say the least
Why are we reading Tea Party tripe on /.? (Score:2)
Let's try again, this time with someone actually on the left, rather than a Tea Partier coming up with b.s.:
The Fairness Doctrine says that if people disagree with opinions on air, they have the right to request that they be allowed to respond. All other regs stay the same, so you can't call Rush a %^&*%^&*^&*(&*(.
How would it force Rush off the air? Actually, if hate speech laws were enforced, he, a number of others, and half of Fox News would be off the air, for that, and violating the law
Re: (Score:2)
...and what, pray tell, would those be? You don't get to quote the liars at FAIR or Media Matters, either, so if they're your only source, don't bother responding.
IOW, it forces broadcasters to give away their airtime
Re: (Score:1)
We could get all technical 'n stuff and remind everybody that it's a broadcast license. And the RF spectrum is a public resource. Therefore everybody has a right to access. Those who would deny access should lose their authority and their license.
