Conservative Spin Begins In 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Republicans 4

Not long ago we had the news of the "Wii Suicide" where an irresponsible gun owner lead to a toddler shooting and killing herself. Now this year we have a toddler killing a 5-year-old, likely again due to irresponsible gun ownership. Being as republicans will gladly bend over backwards to defend gun owners and guns, we will likely see this soon reported with the toddler as a "murderer".Not long ago we had the news of the "Wii Suicide" where an irresponsible gun owner lead to a toddler shooting and killing herself. To be blunt, I am saying that some people are simply not responsible enough to ever own a gun. It is not the fault of the gun, but rather the fault of stupid and irresponsible people who for bewildering reasons are carrying loaded weapons.

Gun control (1)

is using both hands, and getting proper training. With a requirement of classes, proper training, and recertification - you know, just like we do with driving - this wouldn't be such a huge problem.

Therein lies the problem. The concept of "proper training" varies wildly from one jurisdiction to another across the US. And of course many of the people who feel the need to carry a gun to the mall are the same types who view any sort of governmental adjustment of "proper training" as "gub'mint wreckin' muh bizniss!".

Not sure where you live, but I haven't seen many places that actually recertify drivers in any meaningful way beyond having them come back in for an eye exam. And for that matter where I currently live it seems a lot of drivers are running around blind anyways.

That said, I don't really see the benefit of carrying a weapon in public. I have never in my life met anyone who has actually solved a personal problem with a firearm. It seems that a person's desire to carry a gun in public is often inversely proportional to the likelihood that they should actually be trusted to do the same responsibly.

It's rare but it does happen.

In Illinois, you periodically have to retest, as well as pass an eye exam.

I have - I was downtown when a mugger stuck up his gun and took my wallet. As soon as he turned around with my wallet, I drew my Glock 9mm and got my wallet right back, and then held my gun on him until the police arrived.
