User Journal 10

Been dropping all last week.. Wonder if I'll reading about it all next week..

Somebody.. please.. help me find the old edit page Or at least something that lets me change the topic icon. http://slashdot.org/journal.pl?op=edit doesn't work anymore

even if there are problems logging in

there is a clear all fields option which might let your pick a different tag/topic icon

:-) Maybe you'll want to take another look at that picture.. Anyway I found the edit button, but it's still not the same page. These people are really mucking things up. I don't want to, but maybe I have to turn off D2

2nd & 3rd images refer to editing je's. 1st image referred to login problem

D'oh!

For login try

https://slashdot.org/users.pl [slashdot.org]

That's where the old Add journal button used to be, but it's gone now. And I guess I actually have to manually tag the JE to get the icon I want, instead of using the nice pull-down list we used to have..

I was trying it with firefox (13 something ) which I don't normally use for /. to get the full default experience

New Crew, Same Old Crappy Methods (0)

The slashdot employee "PerlJedi" recently wrote a JE bragging about switching slashdot to the new system. I wrote a comment in the discussion on his JE asking him what happened to journal.pl; I gave specific examples of things that were easier with journal.pl and now either more difficult or outright impossible*.

Unsurprisingly, I received no response. Somehow this is supposed to be progress, I guess.

*I challenge you to find a way to display a list of all the journal entries that you (or any other slashdot user) have written. It used to be a simple "list" operation of journal.pl, which would list the title and the timestamp for each entry. I can find no way to generate such a list any more.

Yeah, I just went and fired off a comment about it... These new kids, they know nothing. I wish they'd just go work somewhere else... but not before restoring the old site

Every change makes it worse. Google is doing the same thing, the page renders differently on each machine I use, and its results are turning to crap. Anybody know of a good SE that isn't Microsoft?

...the page renders differently on each machine I use...

Even on the same machine with different browsers. On IE8 or 9, the button for the preference page isn't there. I have to kill all the cookies. For some reason that 'fixes' it. The only way for uncensored search is to run your own crawler. All the others have been compromised by the authorities and the advertisers.

I know of no other place with the permanence of Slashdot. It's the only site I am aware of that etches the comments in stone, the way it should be. If/when that goes, there's no reason to hang anymore.

Or different machines with the same browser. I'm running FF on both achines at home (kubuntu and Win7) and both render differently.

All the stories, diaries, and comments I wrote back when I was at K5 are still there. Google "biters anonymous" and a diary I made about biting trolls comes up as the first or second hit, followed by a bunch about biting nails.
