  • I think one of our automated spam control systems flagged a subnet ID of yours by mistake. I don't see any bans on the IPs themselves. I'll get one of the engineers to take a look. My apologies.

    • No offense intended but this automated spam control system seems to shooting pretty wide of its target. Or is creating an account so quick and easy that this page* can contain over 95% spam [slashdot.org]? Isn't there a way to drag the process out a little? Say, for instance, by obfuscating the 'return address' a bit in the automated response email you send to new applicants so it requires more than just clicking on it? Or even delay the response by some random amount of time? Also, you can do like the supermarkets do, an

        Cleaning up journal spam is something I've been nagging about for a while, but we haven't had the engineering resources to tackle it just yet. We clean up the vast majority of spam in other areas of the site, but journals in particular require extending our system, and it just hasn't been built yet. I'll bring it up again today when I talk with the engineers. I can't promise anything, but hopefully we can get something done soon.
