Another day on /.

Another day on /., another batch of troll moderators perpetrating a coordinated (or an uncoordinated) moderation attack as has been the case for a few months now. One thing is for sure, they don't forget to go back to comments made days ago and moderate them down religiously, whatever they are. It is especially effective in case when the story is no longer on the front page (but also it doesn't matter much I suppose either, nobody is really reading any longer at that moment in time) The comments that are moderated somewhat above the -1 score will be moderated down by subsequent moderators, who will also come over to the page to get rid of any positive scores. Often the moderations happen in batches, which is easy to see, since moderations of multiple comments happen within a span of a couple of minutes. Very often the comments are left with moderation: '-1 Insightful' or '-1 Informative' or '-1 Interesting'.

The comments are mostly moderated Troll, sometimes Flamebait, sometimes Offtopic and sometimes simply Overrated.

including comments in my journal
http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=3284211&cid=42150003

Clearly the intent behind the moderation is to silence the opinion, not for any other purpose, since moderating past commentary this way does not have any role in any current discussion, so the reason to moderate comments in stories that nobody is reading for a few days is to ensure that in the future only a limited number of comments can be made from the account (2 comments per 24 hours is the maximum that can be made when the 'karma' score is minimal.)

The attack is obviously personal in nature, since the same exact thing is happening in my second account and the responses that are left on my comments after the moderation by various ACs imply that this is done to ensure that the voice of the opposition to their ideology is silenced.

Of-course not every comment there is at the bottom of the score pyramid, however the moderations that push the comments down come after the discussions are over, a couple of days after nobody else is reading the threads, which simply shows the indiscriminate nature of the attack.

Clearly there are people who cannot argue against my type of message but they surely do not want to have my message around to create an echo chamber that prevents any sort of a real discussion.

of-course not all comments are moderated down, some are never moderated, which shows that the moderators do not always pay attention to all the comments.

Or could it be that there are a handful of your posts that don't warrant moderation?

if you would read a little, you would know why... (1)

Anonymous Coward | about a year and a half ago | (#42157231)

slashdot has set definitions for "troll", "flamebait", "offtopic", and "overrated". when you insist on injecting [slashdot.org] your [slashdot.org] religion [slashdot.org] into a [slashdot.org] discussion on [slashdot.org] wikileaks [slashdot.org] , you are being offtopic (at the very least, and more likely trolling or flame-baiting).

so stop trying to claim that there is some vast socialist conspiracy against you. hell, you had other comments in the same discussion moderated up until you wandered far, far, far, offtopic and were subsequently hit for doing so. you got what you had coming to you, and nothing worse.

of course, by insisting on using a sock puppet account to overcome this obvious fact, you do yourself no favors, either.

Suggestions (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year and a half ago | (#42159179)

You seem to take it quite personally when people down-moderate your comments. Here are some suggestions that can help you to be down-moderated less in the future:

  • Be more on topic (in relation to the original topic of the discussion) - and you'll likely be moderated offtopic less often
  • Be less confrontational - and you'll likely be moderated flamebait less often
  • Don't turn every discussion into another exercise of political evangelism - and you'll likely be moderated troll less often
  • Don't whine so much about being down moderated - and you'll likely be moderated overrated less often
  • Stop using sock puppets to spread your evangelism - and you'll likely be moderated troll less often as well.
  • Stop self-referencing to your own comments as if you want people to view you as the world's great authority on the world - and you'll likely be moderated flamebait less often as well.
  • Actually try having a conversation with someone who you do not agree with, rather than just insulting them and calling them names - and you might even some day be moderated up.

We understand that you view yourself as the greatest thinking mind since ron paul. However, you won't convince anyone of that when you go about presenting your argument with such unbelievable arrogance and dickishness. You very likely have managed to anger a lot of people, and it seems you haven't learned anything from that.

I would mod you up, but I blew all my mod points on roman_mir's posts for the exact reasons you state.

You can report that activity, you know... (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year and a half ago | (#42162065)

Just send an email to feedback@slashdot.org. If they see evidence of moderator point abuse, they can undo it and even strike the abusers from the list to receive points in the future. Since you don't like market-based solutions here, you might as well try this one instead.

Judging from his comments, roman_mir seems to think so.

an echo chamber (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year and a half ago | (#42165135)

an echo chamber that prevents any sort of a real discussion.

Since you are too far removed from reality to notice, allow me to point out that slashdot is - and has been for a long time - an echo chamber. Specifically, slashdot is an echo chamber for libertarians and ron paul supporters to voice their political views to each other. Most of those people can handle doing so in a civil and reasonable manner.

You, however, are such a rabid and vile spewer of hatred that you make their entire cause look ridiculous by association. There is a very good chance that you are actually being moderated down not by "socialists" as you claim, but rather by your own fellow paullowers who don't want your insanity making them look like uninformed goons. If you would take a moment - and perhaps some medication as well - you might come to the realization that when you make being uncivilized your standard MO, you won't make many friends. You came to a friendly community and then you ran around telling everyone that they are idiots. Why then are you surprised to be moderated down as a troll? And being as you then respond to that by opening sock puppet accounts to continue spreading your message, you are showing that you are resistant to learning, as well.

Re:an echo chamber (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year and a half ago | (#42165235)

Yes, it turns out that if you're trying to get people to vote your way it generally isn't helpful to advocate against their right to vote [slashdot.org] . When it's followed by lamenting that the right to vote "DESTROYED freedom in America by destroying good self-governance" it becomes anyone's guess whether the poster is troll or a complete idiot. There's no option to moderate as the latter, so we go with the former.

Re:an echo chamber (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year and a half ago | (#42167583)

Yes, it turns out that if you're trying to get people to vote your way

That is your mistake right there. Roman_mir doesn't want people to vote his way, as he doesn't want them to vote at all. He is trying to argue that they need his leader to take over in spite of the will of the people. Indeed he actually wants to suppress the vote - all the way to zero - and then have only the followers of his preferred movement allowed to select leaders for the country, as it is in his view that they are the only ones who know what this country really needs.
