Fyodor Responds... Kinda

Security 11

Well, Fyodor wrote a rather lengthy reponse today, collating a whole bunch of geocities pages in order to prove that any allegation made against him is false, and that he is not a terrorist.

I don't really know what to make of his response: it's weird, because he kind of denies hacking sdem's computer, but he doesn't deny posting screenshots of sdem's page to his website, and talks about "trolling trolls" and "rhetorical devices".

I honestly can't make heads or tails of it - I thought that his page on breaking into sdem's machine was a much better piece of writing on his part - but here's the link for you all to try to make sense of:

Interestingly he accuses me of slander and says that he would press charges if he weren't busy with an important project. That certainly would be interesting, considering I could haul at least ten witnesses into any courtroom that saw his "Troll Hunting 101" post.

Completely weird.

Sorry! There are no comments related to the filter you selected.

Just wanted to let you know I've been following this with interest. You're doing a great job of exposing it, and I do believe that the slashbork "editors" are as guilty as fyodor himself.

Oh, and BTW - thanks for my .sig link =)

some proof he's blackhat (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 11 years ago | (#6082086)

when a respectable person faces a slanderous statement (usually from a very small group), he ignores it and goes about his business. For example, Bush probably hears things all the time, but how often does he say anything about it? Never. Alan Cox getting called anal cocks, jokes about rob malda, likewise.

Here, we have a guy who trys to pass himself as respectable, has seen what he feels is a slanderous statement from a small minority (that being guys like sllort, sdem, etc), and answered it.

If this guy were truly whitehat, he'd ignore the posts sdem and others have made by not posting replies to them.

Original journal entry (0)

Since sllort tends to change his journals to suit his mood swings, here is the original entry as of my posting time. Also, I don't see "a whole bunch of geocities pages" in Fydor's response. I see one - can't sllort count?

sllort is Fyodor!!!

What does 'is' mean? (1)

gmhowell (26755) | more than 11 years ago | (#6087513)

That's what Fyodor has engaged in. From my memory of the documents I looked at a week or so ago, sdem's computer was not terribly secure. By one definition, Fyodor didn't 'break' into a computer. If someone is sharing a Windows directory over their cable modem without password, am I 'breaking in' when I copy/delete all of the files I find? And argument could be made in the negative. Similarly, when Fyodor accessed sdem's computer, he was entering an unlocked door. There was no breaking and entering, just entering.

In any event, he's a fucktard.

If your pants are not very secure does that mean I can assrape you?

You ignorant piece of shit (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 11 years ago | (#6101167)

How do you know that his machine was "insecure"? Did you perform a security evaluation on it? Did you sweep it for an IDS and a firewall?

Jesus christ on a pogo stick, running an X server means that people have the right to remotely access your box, even if they have to overflow some buffer with shellcode and add themselves as a user to get access?

You truly are a freak. Care to share your IP address? We'll let you know if it was legal to break into your machine.

Unlike the other dumbasses that replied to you, I'm going to leap to the more logical conclusion that you are not defending Fyodor's actions but are instead pointing out his inferior attempt at building a strawman (note: assuming the allegations are true; I'm making no accusation). Unfortunately, this argument requires an understanding of subtlety that will fly over the head of the average Slashdot troll, who chuckles to this day over the dry wit of his 257th consecutive homosexual slashfic post.

There was a good deal of wordsmithing going on in his post. I think he's uneasy about the whole deal and wishing it'd just go away, but while an admission and an apology can work wonders for a politician it would kill Fyodor's career and give more fuel to the trolls (at a minimum, the word "wanker" will appear more times in a Fyodor/nmap story than any other from now on regardless of what he does). Already, this will hang over his head much as sdem's private activities being made public will hang over his (not that I'm implying that they should in any way, sdem seems alright and all in IRC).

Perhaps this is a good reminder of why we should not make or take trolling personal. The fun part of trolling involves the moral outrage coming from the users, not the trolls, but this has gone way too far for comfort. From my perspective, anyway, although I'm open to hearing others.

You have taken the post in the manner intended.

My argument, in a nutshell.

I thought the subject line, referring to the absurdity of the Clinton affair, would have indicated quite clearly the proper manner in which to read my post.
