Journal FortKnox's Journal: Enter the Matrix (the game) 4

FYI - No spoilers, but I'm sure most of you already saw the movie at least once by now.

I own a 'cube, and decided to drop $50 on "Enter the Matrix".

Worth the money?

ABSOLUTELY (if you enjoyed 'reloaded').

It fills in 'side stories' that happen parallel to the movie. Keep in mind that the Warchoski's (sp?) sold the rights to the game before they wrote the script, so the game's story is streamlined from the movie so it flows VERY well.

The graphics aren't Doom3 (or even UT), but they are the best you could do if you are going to simultaenously release a game to all 3 platforms AND to the PC. The gameplay is superb, and the story is top notch. I found that its a tad easy (I would expect it to be much harder), but really stays true to the movie.

One other thing is that I'm getting a little past Reloaded and am afraid to go on (don't want to ruin 'Revolutions' before I see it).

Offtopic: Surak put up some undocumented recent slashdot changes that some of you may be interested in.

It's good to see that *someone* in the world likes this game. My friend and I passed around the controller for the PS/2 version after he got it about a week ago and had some fun. We didn't get too far into it in that one sitting, but we did manage to unlock the multiplayer which was extremely entertaining (for about an hour or 2). I guess I agree with the reviews that rate this one about a 75%. The concepts are all there, it has good backstory, but was sort of a rush job which is all to obvious in some aspects.

The PC port has a near-terminal case of "ship now, patch later" syndrome. I think Shiny slapped together keyboard/mouse support, switched the build target in Visual Studio from "XBox Release" to "Win32 Release", and called it a day.

The result: A game that somehow runs worse on an Athlon 1333 with a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 than it does on an XBox. Even with the graphics settings turned all the way down, and the resolution set to 640x480, any fight with more than two cops turns into a slideshow.

Now that I've upgraded to an Athlon XP 2800+, it might be playable again. I'd like to see the rest of the story. It's cool to see the plot thread from "Last Flight of the Osiris" to the game to Reloaded.

BTW, did anyone catch the Ferris Bueller's Day Off reference? :-)
