  • Maybe they're all as stumped as me. I don't even know where to begin.
    • And I agree with Some Woman. There is no clue to find out anything about these workstations. I only have one clue: SamTheButcher has a Linux workstation in the basement but also uses a Mac. However I doubt it's an iMac. I just don't know. So for basements pics only two are possible: 25 and 28. I picked 28, just because it looks like what I call a basement.
Pic 10, 18, 23 and 27 are the same room. So I marked them "double". Not sure, but 8 and 24 could be the same environment.

      Finally, the only one

      • Well, you're wrong on at least two. I'll give you a hint...I resized my picture.
      • Gee, who would own a sun computer... is there anyone who has a name that would imply they like the sun a lot... maybe that sun is the center of their universe =^) Oh, wait, there's more than one person with sun computers and they definately have distinct computer setups so I can tell you there's more than one sun lover out there.

Also it has come to my attention that the owner of 10, 18, 19, 23, 27, and 31 are all the same person. Why this info was not shared at the beginning of the contest is unknown to
        • since my picture and my wife's picture were of the same room, I didn't want to lump anything together like that when it may or may not be the case.
        • I only noticed one Sun in the pics. I'd like to have one, but it's not as if you get them that easy.
At least it explains your nick. I always thought you were in astronomy or so.
          • There's the big rack sun that probably most are talking about, but in the one shot of a bookcase there's two sparcs on the floor and in the one room that has a corner setup the computer in the corner appears to be an early ultra sparc.
            • Unfortunately I'm not very good at identifying non-Mac non-PC machines. This has mainly to do that my contact to "other architectures" is mainly at work over a shell or an xterm.
I often don't even know how a Sparc, SGI or Sun looks like. :-(
No SGI's on any of the pics? I'd love to have an Octane or so :-)
  • But since it would ruin the surprise i can't answer.
    no guesses for me...
  • Allowing multiple pictures per user really makes this hard, you know..

    • Well, I'm just going to respond to the long ones an the linking ones since even I don't know who most of these are.

your linking of 6, 16, and 26: umm ...16 appears in the corner of 10, so unless 10 (and the other coniciding ones) are owned by someone with two computer rooms, it's unlikely that they are the same person.

15: somewoman is a mac user.

23: Manly geek, you say? if pic 6 is any indication about the curved top of that case, that's an emachine and thus doesn't run long enough to justify putting th
    • whoever he is, the poor schmuck has to go down to the basement to use his computer?! Probably married w/ kids would be my guess!!

...or... the other alternative, this being slashdot: it's a nerd that lives in his parents basement and hence what you see *is* his room.

Thanks for voting me on #2. I greatly appreciate. Only thing: I don't drink stout. (Puts on flame-resistant-underwear for fear fo attacks from UK-ians.) Luckily there is also a life-saving pils in the background.

    • You know, guys, I was kinda KIDDING about how hearing how MISERABLY I failed.

I thought it might be an ego-boost for everyone else if you got someone in here who can't really even identify types of computers when she's given explicit clues. And besides, I promised intermodal.

      ....Bethanie....
      • well, i wasn't ripping your thing apart on purpose...I simply addressed a few mistakes that others as well have made too but which I hadn't actually bothered to respond to yet (for example, 16 not being attatched to its accompanying pics.

The one day you'd sell your soul for something, souls are a glut.
