From Roger L. SimonFrom Roger L. Simon

Today Sirota seems like an imbecile (well, he did before), but I would venture to say he doesnâ(TM)t know why. So I will spell it out for him: the War on Terror (euphemism alert) is not about skin color. It is about ideology, Islamic ideology.
The Tsarnaevs are white people in the purest sense. They are Caucasians from the Caucasus, of all things, but they believe in Allah â" do or die, apparently.
Too young for the civil rights movement, Sirota is an adherent of an ultra-bourgeois nostalgia for racism that hides under the ludicrous rubric âoeprogressive.â Itâ(TM)s laughable, but itâ(TM)s also sad and dangerous.
It avoids a confrontation with the great issue of our time â" what to do about Islam, an all-consuming ideology that seeks to engulf the world. The Sirotas of our culture want to downplay that but the reality remains.
Sloughing this off on âoewhite skin privilegeâ is particularly worrisome, even venal, because many will believe it. As one who was heavily active in the days that term was invented (â(TM)60s) and helped promulgate it in my writing and speechmaking, I can attest to how dangerous it is. Its intention was never really to cure racism, but to perpetuate it, to increase racial enmity by pointing the finger at people who were, if anything, only culpable in the most remote sense.

That is all.

That's one way to avoid dealing with the content of Simon's post, I suppose.

For someone so intelligent, you are such a stooge.

Understood, accusation. Are you going anywhere with that, then?

Not really.

Sorry if I'm grumpy. You really should test your assumptions and prejudices, though.

Go live in a predominantly Muslim country for a couple of months. Outside of a luxury hotel, or some reality distortion trap like Dubai - which will give you as good a perception of people and values as time in Vegas would give you of the U.S.

A week in Turkey, a week in Morocco. Then? A week in Malaysia. I think you will find that "The Muslims" as used in caricature, simply do not exist. You will also find that the thread common from Islam in each of these places results in a number of good and bad characteristics - the good generally predominating. Hospitality, charity, sincerity and piety among them.

The article you link has the same value as something written about a "Protestant threat" because of the Westboro Baptist Church, People's Temple and Adam Koresh.

Go to Chechnya, and you'll quickly find Islamic extremeism takes a distant back seat to nationalism and personal vendetta.

My guess? The older brother's wife was seduced by a marathon runner and moved to Rhode Island. It could really be that simple.

Even if it is the most plausible explanation, you can't sell a war with that kind if thinking.

Mr. Smith, you asked, "Have you heard me be a "Team America: World Police" apologist?"

The answer is, yes. Could this JE be any more obvious(ly a troll)? C'mon man, pretty transparent, retransmitting that kind of bigotry. Do you really think that there is no money changing hands? How naive could that be? Or worse, why are you pimping this business? I sincerely hope you are just trolling.

Unlike most, I don't want a new front in the war on terror to result from this. I'd be happy seeing the younger brother plead cultural based insanity and be put in a mental institution for some serious re-education. The death penalty is too merciful for such an act; and unlike Jihad which follows its own internal logic of just war rules, the only way to stop a Vendetta is to *just say no to retaliation*.

The whole religious/cultural angle is for the tabloid press. The bombing was part of a financial transaction, or plain old psychosis, doesn't matter if it's 'cultural'.

If vendetta is plain old psychosis, then a third of the world has that psychosis.

And I rather doubt financial transactions are involved- Chechen Lone Wolves kill for honor, not money, which they haven't ever had much of.

...a third of the world has that psychosis.

Yes, at least... Personally, judging by history, I think it's double that.

Chechen Lone Wolves kill for honor...

A very marketable commodity in today's economy...

A Chechen would kill you just for saying his honor is for sale. Especially if the honor you are talking about is a wife, a sister, or a girlfriend.
