Journal fm6's Journal: The Righteous Moderator 7

I freely admit it: this post was fairly modded down. But just because a downmod is fair, doesn't mean it makes sense. This is an obscure post that nobody's gonna read anyway, unless they read everything (as some Slashdotters seem to do, don't ask me why). So why waste your points on it? To punish me? I generate karma a lot faster than I can possibly use it up

People need to stop thinking about moderation as a moral issue and use their points in a useful way. That means making the forum more interesting, not punishing people who irritate you.

  • But at least there is a chance the metamod might catch it. Unlike the overrated/underrated mod which they can't undo. (snicker)
    • Uh, you seem to have missed my point. The downmod was perfectly fair, and no responsible metamoderator would reverse it. It just wasn't very smart.
      • No, I got it and I agree... I just happen to have a couple mod points and tagged it underrated to 1) toss you a karma bone and 2) show another way the mod system is on crack. I gave up on the mod system a long time ago. Now I just tag people I want to read rather than rely on mod points.
  • Don't just consider that particular discussion's posts, in the bigger context of /., all imagine a cluster of these jokes with a clusterable hardware story is redundant. We have seen them a thousand times and we tend to think how many such unfunny jokes will there be in an hardware related story the moment we realize some kind of computing device is being talked about.

OTOH I still find few cluster jokes original. But only when I'm surprised to see one.
