Journal anttik's Journal: Trying out BitTorrent...

I had to finally try out BitTorrent.

Now I'm disappointed.

I decided to try it out with a large file which has a lot of seeds and downloaders, so I went with RedHat 9 iso's (1769.2MB). Been downloading since Tuesday I think. Currently I'm at 64% and my line could dl it in under 24 hours at max speed.

OK, BitTorrent is a good idea, but it isn't working with max effectiveness. I'm sure I could get full speed dl because I'm not giving out data at my max ul speed. I bet it's same for all.

Luckily, with this file I can be pretty patient, because I can't install it anyway before August, so I'll just leech it slow and steady. I suppose it'll be done by next Tuesday anyway.

From my point of view the best kind of file to dl with BitTorrent would be something that is 1) slashdotted and 2) under 100MB. If the file is larger, it's just easier (and faster) to wait for the /. effect to fade out and then dl it.

If BT is made more efficient in some way, I'll start using it for everything possible... until then, I'll use the traditional means.
