Journal securitas's Journal: Rejected: Biometric Driver's Licenses: National ID Pilot?

Thought I'd start posting my rejected articles to the journal since there might be someone other than me who finds them interesting.

2002-01-21 08:08:02 Biometric Driver's Licenses: National ID Pilot? (yro,privacy)

There have been some concrete developments on the idea of driver's licenses as (inter)national IDs. West Virginia is piloting facial recognition systems for driver's licenses in a contract with Digimarc and Visionics. Digimarc supplies driver's license systems to 37 states. Meanwhile, the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators is lobbying Congress for federal legislation requiring unique identifiers be embedded in all US driver's licenses, and cross-reference multiple state, federal and law enforcement databases. The organization -- which represents DMV admins from across the USA and Canada -- said it forsees a common unique ID used in both the US and Canada.
