Journal Surak's Journal: Someone offered me money for my account 29

Wow. Someone offered me money for my account. Apparently I have a low UID. Like it matters all that much. When I started, my UID was high. Now it's low. Whatever. How much are they getting for accounts with low UIDs and karma capped at "excellent" these days? Should I sell it? It's not like I need the money, but hey, a new PC *would* be nice. :)

  • Let me know. I don't want to have public on-line sex with a *stranger*!!!

    :-)

    ....Bethanie....
    • I was thinking of something clever to say to insinuate you could have online sex with me...

But it just reminded me of an old Calvin & Hobbes Cartoon. Calvin is sick at home and watching a soap-opera. You just hear smooching, then the woman says "Don't you wish we were married?" And the guy replies "We are! Oh, you mean to each other" and calvin simply says "I learn so much when I stay home from school."

Did this have a point? I dunno, its late on friday and I'm burnt out, lemmie lone.
      • Oh, FK, you're too wholesome for anything like that. Waaaaay too squeaky clean to be naughty at a Bethanie level.

Trust me -- it's not something to strive for. ;-)

        ....Bethanie....
        • I strive for it everyday. I'm not altogether certain how successful I am, but I strive for it nonetheless. You *are* my inspiration! ;)
          • You *are* my inspiration!

            And you, mine.

It's a never-ending downward spiral into lubricity. And a slip-sliding we will go!! Whoo hoooooooo!

            ....Bethanie....
          • the two of you! *blush* Honestly, if you didn't carry on so publicly, i'd be forced to go sully myself with such wickedness upon my own person!! noticing that the chain is still attached to my arm and is trailing from my sleeve* Oh, dear. Well, you did let up for awhile... hiding chain in sleeve and straightening dress and corset* Now, where were we? Oh, yes. Surak, you're entirely lewd and lascivious, and i hereby award both of you a rampant hedonism point of favour. *nod*

            *clank!clank!!!!*

            • Wow! More DragonKarma! ;)

As for the lewdness and lasciviousness, what can I say? I practice an Earth-based fertility religion. ;)
            • "rampant hedonism"? We get points for THAT!?!

Oh, cool!!! I'm like, totally in then!

Glad your voyeurism is paying off, Sol. I'd hate for *you* to find yourself down here in the mire...

Of course, if you did, we could have ourselves a *bitchin* wrasslin' match! (You sure you don't wanna strip down and hop on in? It feels *really* neat squishin' through your toes and in your... well... nevermind...)

              ....Bethanie....
      • I like the one where Calvin and Hobbes are on the floor, looking at a book. Calvin says: "It says here that 'Religion is the opiate of the masses.' What do you suppose that means?

The next frame shows the TV set with a thought bubble: "...It means Karl Marx hadn't seen anything yet..."
        • The next frame shows the TV set with a thought bubble: "...It means Karl Marx hadn't seen anything yet..."

          Oh, that is SOOOO true...

    • The likelihood of someone offering me enough money is pretty slim. :)
  • If you don't want to sell, maybe they'd be incited by my account. Although I don't have nearly as many fans.

Also, my username is kind of personal. I'm not sure I want to give it up. Although I'd be willing to part with even that for $1000.

    • Goes back to my original theory: everyone has a price. ;)
    • Pah. Newbie... :-)
      • Yeah, yeah...I was one of those holdouts that was hoping that accounts would die a horrible death. It never happened. I've been a Slashdotter probably almost as long as you have... ;)
        • I was one of those holdouts that was hoping that accounts would die a horrible death.

Wow. That's quite some holdout! And I thought I resisted getting an account for a long time, hence my comparatively high ID...

          • slashdot sucked back then!

now, back in my day, the more modern but still classic 100-200K range.

low user id's are obsolete! yeah! that's it...

so how much do you pay for five digit accounts, four digit?
    • Well you do have nearly the perfect UID number.
(I wonder who has 12345, or 123456 for that matter?)

As for me while I was a slashdot reader for a long time I just didn't bother to get an account until 2000 or so. Basicly about the time posting as an AC became a good way to get ignored.
  • Like you said... "like it matters."

The real question is... if people start doing that, how much would they pay for UID 1? :)
  • read my previous journal entry on it here [slashdot.org]. It was back in March.

FYI - I'm still pretty sure the ID sold in that case was Erbo.

I wonder what my account would be worth?

I dimly remember reading some news site or another and seeing an article about how that new "Slashdot" site I previously had visited a few times was now handing out user numbers. So I wandered over here and picked up my 4115. Since then I've almost forgetten my password a few times. I don't post much but I read almost daily and once in awhile I even moderate.
  • Dude, take the money and run! They did [com.com] and look at what they got [business.com]!
