Deslack's Journal: Kurast gets its dose of Kernelwamba!

This is my first journal entry since... well, let's say it was a long, long time ago. I decided to post mine on /. mainly because:

1. I have an account on /. for nearly 3 years now. (Look ma, 48390 out of 600,000+ accounts! I'm damn 1337!)
2. They've been providing this journal thingy for over a year already.
3. I don't have the time to code and maintain my own weblog.
4. Good, free webhosting (F2S was one good one, with bannerless free host that features MySQL, PHP and all... it was sad to see them go) is scarce nowadays. I may, however, sign up with a paid hosting service and get myself a domain and all... we'll see.

Back to business. My router machine, kurast (named after a realm in Diablo 2) gets 2.4.22, which was announced a few days ago. Oh, in case you were wondering...

• Intel Pentium Processor running at 166MHz
• 48MB 60ns EDO DRAM
• Quantum Bigfoot CY HDD, 2.1GB
• S3 ViRGE (325) Video Adapter (most of the time unused, but it's there just in case.)
• A generic 10/100 Realtek 8139C NIC (hub)
• A 3Com 3C905B-TX 10/100 NIC (external ADSL modem)
• A Baby-AT, PCPartner Motherboard with Intel's 430FX "Triton" chipset.
• A 3.5" 1.44MB floppy drive that I rarely use.

It runs a stripped-down version of Red Hat Linux 8.0, with no X, GNOME, KDE or whatsoever installed. Just the necessities. Samba, BIND, Apache, the DHCP and Linux's iptables were set up on this machine. It's a server that does the basic routing needs (so I can hook up virtually unlimited computers to share my internet connection.)
