Journal FortKnox's Journal: Football: Week 1 Predictions 12

This year will be like last. I don't do the 'points' thing except to prove how strong or weak my choices are. I'll always be a sleeper of the week, and you can tell me how wrong I am (but at least explain yourself). I'll order them in the order they play:

Jets vs Skins: No Pennington, no Coles (well, for the Jets), no Morton and Martin is running on two bad legs. If I was Edwards, I'd be thinking hard about retiring Martin for LaMont Jordan. Shouldn't be much of a game. Skins by 10

Ravens vs Steelers: Two solid Ds. But which O will produce? The first matchup of these two last year was the Ravens winning, then Maddox coming in his first game to come from behind to win. The second matchup was an utter blowout. I expect a blowout here again. Steelers by 17

Texans vs Dolphins: I've got to play against Ricky Williams this week. Feel pity for me. Phins by 14

Rams vs Giants: People expect great things out of the Giants this year. But I think you'll be surprised to see a healthy Kurt Warner + healthy Marshal Faulk = the superbowl offense of old. High scoring game! St Louis by 3

Colts vs Browns: Have the Colts caught on to Tony Dungies Cover-2 D? Either way, Payton Manning and Edge will have a hey-day against the completely young and useless Browns D. Another VERY high scoring game. Colts by 7

Broncos vs Bengals: SLEEPER PICK Yes, I expect to be laughed at for this one. If the Bengals O can be what they were at the end of last year and the D caught on to Lewis' power D, this could be quite a game. The Broncos have a strong O, but a slow D. If the Bengals don't win, it'll be a CLOSE game. Bengals by 1

Cardinals vs Lions: The Lions were pitiful last year. Last year. Lions by 3

Jags vs Panthers: Peete at QB is a joke, right? Not when you have a really good D, and a powerhouse RB. Panthers by 3

Pats vs Bills: Everytime Bledsoe faces up against Belichick, he gets his ass handed to him. Bledsoe will probably suffer some headaches this game too. HOWEVER, the Bills D is looking mighty strong this year, so the Pats Mediocre O will have a hard time against the Bills. This is your boring low-scorer of the week. I love the idea of Bledsoe beating his old team for the first time at home, though. Bills by 3

Chargers vs Chiefs: The Bolts have a strong and young D. The also have a good running game and maturing passing game. The Chiefs have a superb running game, good QB, but it all comes down to the chiefs D. If good, they are playoff material, if poor, well... it'll be a long year. Bolts by 1

Vikes vs Packers: The Vikings left a bad taste in my mouth last year. The O got worse with the loss of benett. All they have is a decent D to depend on. Packers by 7

Saints vs Seahawks: This will be a good game to watch. Both teams are trying to prove they can get over that 'hump' into the post season. I have a tough time picking either side. Both have great QBs, Ds, RBs, but the Saints WRs are slightly better than the Seahawks. Saints by 1

Falcons vs Cowboys: The Cowboys secondary is steller. The Falcons have a good D, also, but they are putting in a QB that will probably pass more to Roy Williams than Peerless Price. But I have a feeling the Falcons will employ more of a running game. Falcons by 2

Bears vs 49ers: The 49ers are on the downslope. However, the Bears haven't done much to improve its O, and the D is looking worse with the 'big man' in the middle. 49ers by 3

Raiders vs Titans: The Raiders hit the wall. Sorry Blackneto, but this year is not looking too good for the men in black. The Titans, on the other hand, look very solid this year (many have them picked for the superbowl). Titans by 7

Bucs vs Eagles: The Bucs just don't have a good offense, in my opinion. I don't think they deserved the Crown. My emotions have perverted my pick. Eagles by 3

  • As you well know, I am a rabid bears fan. I have too many questions to make any predictions yet this year:

Which Kordell will we see. The one from years past or the one who failed badly the last few years in Pitt?

Is the D healthy and wise enough this year? Is the loss of whatsisname at LB that much of a loss?

Will Urlacher be the same beast with a new linebacker playing with him?

Can the team stay healthy? Start 98!!! (IIRC) different players last year. let that sink in. 98.

    Which team will we see?
  • You didn't give a score for the Bears and Niners?

Ugh, and that the one I was looking for.

Oh well I guess I'll jest have to watch ESPN...

    Sean D.
  • Based on what? Pre-season? Next thing you will be saying they are too old to make it to the Superbowl.
The team has never taken these games seriously. They have been properly used to give the draftees and walk-ons a look. Also they give a chance for players changing position to get a workout.

I think sunday will be tight and your assessment is good but it may be more like 3.

I think if they split the division games they will take the AFC West again. But I'm not sure about the post season. I usually wait to s
  • When is the Bears home opener in their new spaceship... err I mean stadium? Man, is that thing ugly or what?
  • Oh! Oh! Oh! Is it already time for FK's predictions? Woo hoo! Ok...

Jets vs Skins: No Pennington, no Coles, and no Morton... Vinny QB'ing. It does not look good for the Jets. (Side note: have you seen the cool ads for this games? Withs Coles saying how excited he is to be playing his old team? LOL!) Let me get it out in the open, I like the Skins. Good program, great ownership, cool fans. But I hate, I loathe, I detest Steve Spurrier. And it pains me to say: Skins take this one tonight. Skins wi
