Bacteria + Coke = Future Laptop Battery Power? (Score:3, Interesting)
For the ultimate in renewable energy, why not have bacteria produce our electricity from naturally grown sugar? Far-fetched you say? Scientific American [sciam.com], the Genome News Network [genomenewsnetwork.org] and H2Cars [h2cars.biz] describe a breakthrough discovery- a bacteria that converts common sugars to electricity with 81% efficiency. (There's still work to do to increase the amount of current that can be handled though.) Should I power my laptop with it, or my DeLorean [bigpond.net.au]? Official abstract here. [nature.com] Related prior research abstracts here [nih.gov] and here [nih.gov]. And someone tell the Matrix Architect [geekroar.com] he picked the wrong hardware and he can unplug us now, OK?...
