Football: Week 2

I know you have been waiting for these, especially after my abismal 9-6 ranking last week. Well, lets go down the line:

Bills vs Jags: After last week, its just hard to go against Bledsoe's Bunch. Buffalo by 7I know you have been waiting for these, especially after my abismal 9-6 ranking last week. Well, lets go down the line:

Bills vs Jags: After last week, its just hard to go against Bledsoe's Bunch. Buffalo by 7

Browns vs Ravens: The Browns D looks to be a little better than what I originally thought (but that isn't saying much), and the Ravens D is exactly as good as I though (which is bad). Looking at the O's, I have to go with Cleveland on this one. Cleveland by 7

Lions vs Packers: The Pack lost 3 recievers, but brought Mr.Antonio Freeman back. Expect to see big things his way this game. However, the Pack need more games to get back into a groove. High scoring game! Lions by 3

Texans vs Saints: Saints played pitiful last week. The Texans surprised the world. But it was week one, the Saints want revenge, and have seen the defensive schemes of Houston. The running game will be stale for the Saints, but Brooks will come through with his two recievers. Saints by 5

Dolphins vs Jets: Dolphins are out for blood this week. The Jets have a pretty good line, and if they can get the offense going, could spill the end of Wahnnsteid. But I still think he isn't dumb enough to not just keep feeding to Ricky. Miami by 4

Steelers vs Chiefs: The Chefs have a superb O-Line, and the best running attack in the NFL. The Steelers are traditional run stoppers, and the 3-4 gives O-Lines headaches. Traditionally, running teams can't "come from behind" so if Maddox has a similar performance like last week, its all in the bag. If it comes down to Green vs Maddox, the Steelers make a killing (just look at the recievers). Pittsburgh by 3

49ers vs Rams: The 49ers look better than I expected, but Bulger can be underestimated. Bluger means solid pass attack and more Faulk. I like the Rams in this matchup. St Louis by 7

Titans vs Colts: The Colts are going down hill. Dungy has better the defense in exchange for killing the offense. McNair is going to have a great game. Tennessee by 7

Skins vs Falcons: If Vick was in the game, I'd almost give this one to the Falcons. But he isn't, Price is ineffective in double teams, Finneran is out. The Skins O is rolling, and D is stifling. Washington by 10

Panthers vs Bucs: Vegas is making the Bucs 9.5 point favorites. 9.5?!?! I'd take those points anyday. The Panthers have a very solid D, as does Tampa Bay. The O's can be effective, but this will be a defense vs running, low score game. But I still give it to the Bucs for the better kicker and D. Low score bore-game. Bucs by 3

Seahawks vs Cards: Tough choice. Cards have 4 of their rookie recievers injured. Their bag of tricks is already open. They enjoyed a single win. Seattle by 10

Bengals vs Raiders: The Bengals will improve upon their terrible first game. Unfortunately, they are pretty much out of the next two games. Oakland this week, Pittsburgh next. Oakland by 7

Broncos vs Chargers: Plummer must be happy he's not in his home crowd. The bolts have a young secondary, but Plummer can't play like he did last week. Place your bets. Who will run better, Portis or Tomlinson? Bolts by 3

Pats vs Eagles: Both had disappointing starts. But the Eagles are at home and want their first win for the new stadium. Philly by 3

Bears vs Vikings: The Vikings showed some serious game vs the Packers. They did the same thing last year when they were terrible. Unfortunately the bears are terrible, also. But Stewarts mobility may be the answer for a bears win. Spoiler of the week! Bears by 1

Cowboys vs Giants: The Giants are going to man-handle the 'boys offense, but there is a mobile QB, so it shouldn't be a complete blowout. Giants by 14

Puhlease. Randy Moss is going to have a field day on the Bears D.

Not because the D is not good, but because the offense is so bad. The Bears are going nowhere this year on offense, causing the D to be on the field for 40 minutes + a game. They get tired. Mike Brown won't be able to cover the whole field.

I look to see the Bears losing by atleast 21 points. It pains me something fierce to say this, but Minn has WAAAAAY too many weapons on O.

Gawd. Now I'm depressed. A great way to start my NFL Sunday ticket season.
The local sports dudes down here in Atlanta seem to think Dick Jauron will be fired this year, probably during the season. I hope not. He's a classy coach and by all accounts a damned good guy. I don't know who is in charge of personel selection, but hiring Kordell was a huge mistake. Getting rid of Jim Miller was a huge mistake. Letting James "Big Cat" Williams go was a huge mistake. Letting Roosevelt Colvin go was a huge mistake.

Look for the pride and joy of the D to leave as soon as his contract is up if they don't get quality guys around him. Yes, I am talking about Brian Urlacher. 1 game into the season and I feel like I am staring a 3-13 record in the face.

Dayton, whatcha think? Am I wrong?

You forgot ted washington.

LAst I heard it was a conspiracy theory that the GM was hiring bad talent and releasing good talent to get rid of Jauron.

Anywho, Kordell DOES have good games (especially on his feet) around the beginning of the season. It helps to get the crowd's hopes up so he can crush them next week.

The Vikings had MORE talent last year (like a running game), but still did terrible. So don't count your bears out just yet.

Yeah, I did forget Washington.

I watched most of the game last week. The 49ers looked like they were playing a highschool team--a high school team of midgets on donkeys.

Kordell just flat out sucked. He over/underthrew at least 10 passes I saw. Soon enough he will lose the faith of his receivers and when that occurs, games are over. I have about as much faith in Kordell as I do in me winning Man of the Year award at a Lesbian Convention.

No, I'm not bitter.

I seriously think with some good talent, Jauron would be coach of the year. I'll be pissed if they get rid of him. I hate coaches that get all up in everybody's faces. I'd rather have a General on the field instead of a Captain.

I watched a lot of the game tonight, and you're right. Kordell flat out sucks. Man. MAN. It was very difficult watching him. I was almost rooting for the Bears out of pity.

2nd Week Picks (1)

DaytonCIM (100144) | more than 10 years ago | (#6942634)

Bills vs Jags: I'm with FK on this one. Bledsoe and Co look great, look solid. Bills win.

*Browns vs Ravens: The Ravens didn't do crap last week against Pittsburgh. However, you have to note that Pittsburgh is REALLY good this year... and well the Browns are about the same as every other year. The Browns couldn't get the offense going against a pitiful Indie defense. Ravens win.

*Lions vs Packers: Mariucci has these guys rocking... oh yeah and Charles Rogers is the real deal. I love the Pack, but the Lions are serious. Lions win.

*Texans vs Saints: I think the Texans are coming along nicely and played exceptionally well last week. I don't think Aaron Brooks is ready as yet. Texans pull another upset.

Dolphins vs Jets: Still without their leader, the Jets look to open the season 0 and 2. Dolphins win.

Steelers vs Chiefs: This one is easy. Steelers win.

*49ers vs Rams: Bulger... hmmm... 49ers had no problem with my Bears (of course the local high school team wouldn't have a problem with my Bears). Rams under Bulger... no, Rams go 0 - 2. 49ers win.

Titans vs Colts: Another easy one, Colts have a soft defense and the Titans are rolling. Titans win.

Skins vs Falcons: Washington hits the road and heads to Hotalanta. The city of Atlanta may be hot, but damn the Falcons are cold. The Skins are looking really good (if only they could get Ramsey to settle down) and I don't expect them to fall apart in Atlanta. Skins win.

Panthers vs Bucs: Bucs, Bucs, Bucs. Bucs are the team to beat and the one I think will repeat. Bucs win.

Seahawks vs Cards: Seahawks are my sleeper pick for this season. If Alexander stays healthy, the 'Hawks have a serious shot at the playoffs. Seahawks win.

Bengals vs Raiders: Cincy is still weak and showed me nothing last week. Raiders will own Cincy this week. Raiders win.

*Broncos vs Chargers: Portis or Tomlinson? Tomlinson is good, but Portis is simply awesome. Plummer will have had discussions with the coaching staff and he'll know his role. Broncos win.

Pats vs Eagles: Eagles will dominate this game. Eagles win.

Bears vs Vikings: I love the Bears. Can't go against them, so I am doomed to not go perfect on my picks any week... Vikings always play well against the Pack, so I don't really think they showed just how good or how bad they are. Still, I gotta my Bears. Bears win.

Cowboys vs Giants: Cowboys suck. And the Giants are rolling. Poppa Parcells has a lot of work remaining until the Cowboys are ready. Giants win.

Dude. :)

You, uh, you don't put money on these things, do ya?

I would have made a lot of the same picks, i think, though, but a lot of these were just so, SO the other way. Especially the Steelers. I was thinking of FK's pick when I saw that score. Ouch.

Can't wait for week three! :)

Don't forget the Chiefs' passing game (1)

sielwolf (246764) | more than 10 years ago | (#6943054)

It's that classic Vermeil powergame with Gonzolez, Morton, and the rest. Even Holmes gets in on it. I think the Steelers have a benefit in the 3-4 though since they can easily drop back into good pass coverage or blitz off of a lot of their packages. I still think Pittsburgh needs to find someone to replace Dewayne Washington. He isn't the answer at CB. The Steelers were blanking the Ravens for three quarters when Boller decided to pick on Washington. He seems to get flustered (and thus he gave them those two crucial pass-infs that set up the J. Lewis run TD). If Green attacks, it could be dangerous.

FortKnox (169099) | more than 10 years ago | (#6943836)

Honestly, Deshea Townsend is in at corner replacing Chad Scott. My response was W-T-F?!?!?!

Scott has a tendency to be super aggressive, but is a classic shutdown corner. He simply pushes the recievers around, and blankets them. If they wanted Townsend out on the field, why not in Washingtons spot???

I think that if it gets to passing, they'll put in the new nickel defense and double up on washingtons side with a safety.

Please please please (1)

Tell my you saw last night's game. I TiVo'd the end for my wife who is a huge Dallas fan. That was probably one of the best game-ends I've seen in a long time.

*mumbling to himself* never bet so far against the tuna.... never bet so far against the tuna....

Looks like the only two teams you can truely give you a 'gimmie' is Chicago and Arizona.
