September 19th is approaching (Friday), which is Talk like a pirate day. But I want to expand this glorious day.

First, we all need pirate names, which you should add to your .sig on friday, and speak everywhere (at least on slashdot) like a pirate. Feel free to use Johnny Depp or Captain Feathersword (parents will get this one) as an example on how to speak.

Iron John Roberts
A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you are that person. Two things complete your pirate persona: style and swagger. Maybe a little too much swagger sometimes -- but who really cares? Arr!

I'm guessing that some of you will have the same name, so you may have to improv on your name, some.

Update: Yar! Not only be I scooped, but fer both links I be. Many sorrys to Ethelred Unraed. I hope me men won't be risin up in mutiny for me treachery!

Captain Feathersword is hard to do. Not only do you have to do the pirate voice, but you need to get that underlying Austrailian accent in there as well.

Use the your non-used name (typically middle) and the part of the street name you live on (John Toohey, in my case). Of the guys I lived with in college we came up with Milton St. Rene (or Saint), Ben Wyndhurst, and Nick Diamond

  Not bad, but I'd like something with a little more history. I can't remember if any of the Jack Aubrey / Stephen Maturin novels have a pirate. (A Western Hemisphere pirate, to be precise. There are Barbary and East Indies pirates, but that's not quite the effect I want.)

That's been a nickname for a while, and it sounds kind of piratey... ok, more of adolescent piratey, but nevertheless.

Also, there is a cool song by the veggie tales called "Pirates who don't do anything". I highly recommend. Here is a link [ultimateveggie.com] to the mp3. Another group called Reliant K did a version, but I can't find the mp3 anywhere.. (it is really cool).

Most people here on Slashdot could keep thier own names on talk like a pirate day, but seriously, this sounds hilarious. Maybe it will catch on, or maybe people will just think we are strange.
