Journal Xerithane's Journal: Chronology 16

George Carlin was right, life should go backwards. It should end with 9 months in the womb, and the grand finale being an orgasm. But it isn't.

Live life like it's the only one you have. Never say you are bored, before you do, get up and improve your life. Indifference is what makes being old so sad. When you look back a few years back and realize all the time you wasted, your life flashes before your eyes. That isn't what I want, and I doubt it is what you want. It's like what they say, "Nobody says they want to be a junky when they grow up."

I've wasted enough time in my life, and I hate every minute I did. I'm in a race to finish this software to start a company before I find a job. The only thing I can think of is that I should have done this when I was 21. Or 20.

The reality is that I couldn't do it then, because I had to waste that time to learn the lessons that make this time a possible success.

My mom always told me, "Lessons are repeated until learned." It took me a few cycles to realize that, don't make the same mistakes. Try to learn from other people, it's less painful that way :)
  • About Eight years ago, while hanging out in a coffee shop, which I did a lot of back then, I had a friend who we refered to as "Crazy Dave."

    On one occation he said:
"Nobody says they want to be a junky when they grow up.
But every pothead is saying 'I could be President.'"

Kind of an obvious repsonse but, have you seen the Red Dwarf episode sdrawkcab?

Well, I've decided to start doing my messages in a stack instead of a queue. I want to read my friends Jornal entries. Strangely enough this JE was the first t

I've heard that somewhere before, but I can't remember. Damn memory is slipping.. too much work.

I need to get organized. I need to start coding, even if it is just simple programs. I need to look into getting Certified, and then getting a T-Shirt with a big C and a cape. But I still do really want to start a software company sometime, even if what skills I had have deteriorated after working as
  • I regret the amount of time I've wasted, and am trying to make amends in later life. Rather than dithering about whether or not I should do something, I tend to just do it now[1]. As for starting your own company, good luck. It brings a unique set of both challenges and rewards. I'm just about to wind my company down, as I'm not using it any more, and it's just costing me money. But it was the right thing to do at the time, and I'm pleased that I did it.

    • I'd recommend bungie jumping to anyone, both normal and inverse :-)

I was supposed to do this before I lost my job. The next time we went to visit my brother, we were going to stop and I was going to go bungie jump. Now I just get to put the $50 to better use... Damn responsibilities!
    • here here! beautifully put. we spend so much time beating ourselves up for not doing things sooner and usually fail to realize how important that time is in the learning process. i'd have never gotten to where i am had i not "wasted" so much time in the past. i'm glad i did b/c now i'm sooo much further and happier:)

  • Just out of curiosity, what kind of software are you thinking about? If its a killer app, well then patent that sucker then tell me. Or are you thinking about doing some kind of service for a specific industry?

Is it even something you are at liberty to discuss?

I know I've always been thinging about doing my own business, but I'm to much a Virgo to do something so unpredictable, but if I did, It would definately be software of some sort.

The good news is that my economics professor tells me that we are the
    • Or are you thinking about doing some kind of service for a specific industry?

      Bingo.

Is it even something you are at liberty to discuss?

I'm going to dethrone CitySearch :)

All in all it might be a good time to go into business for yourself, but then again IANAE.

If you study economic trends long enough back, you will see that a lot of those unemployed people in the recessions start small companies that help get the economy going up.

      That's my hopes.
  • ...and here I am, posting to /. when I really should be studying for my two tests and two seminars next week. But my head hurts, so I took a break. Please don't tell anyone.

Now, what was it that I wanted to say? Oh yeah: don't hate yourself because of what you didn't do, it's no use. I know that I've done my share of stupid things in my life, but then again, if I hadn't done what I did, I wouldn't be what I am now. I know that I'm far from perfect (see title; borrowed from "Glory Days" by Pulp), but I stil
