Lay it out for me (Matrix Revolutions opinions, no spoilers)

  • Disneyland wins tonight. My friends' opinions and what I have read here on /., I'm taking the wife to Disneyland tonight and not the movies. I'll wait until Matrix III is released on DVD.
  • Did you see Gods and Generals? That Civil War movie this year? I'd say it's equivilent: they got so caught up in doing what they had to do (have some kung-fu, wrapping up Agent Smith but making sure he's tough enough thing, what to do with all the romances, not slacking on any of the dozen characters they introduced, going over the Zion stuff), they forgot to make a good movie. Good film making demands pacing and control. Matrix Revolutions showed none of that. It has its finger down on the ACTION but
    • Link to Sielwolf's masterful rant on the movie is here [slashdot.org] for the lazy(or in case he updates his journal).

Personally, I don't get what's so great about any of the films. The effects are great, and were revolutionary, but I'm sick of bullet time.

If I want something really mentally stimulating, I'll read a book.
  • subject line says it all.

I liked the movie--took yesterday off to see it and the two others--but it was fairly unsatisfying.

Honestly, I loved Revolutions. It gave me the kind of rush at the end that cinema rarely gives, and had plently of intellectual layers for later development.

But, while the layers are certainly there in Reloaded, the rush isn't. Or, rather, the rush is neutered by a @#$@!%Ting annoying plot twist... which I can expound upon later, once you've seen the movie. Suffice it to say that
  • Now I'm totally bummed.....

I won't give away what I read, but those of you understand, it came after a long-winded dialogue.

I'll still go see it this weekend.
  • better than Reloaded, for sure. It was certainly a good movie, and doesn't deserve the beating it's getting from the critics.

It also has many layers. If you look just at the top, it's an ordinary action movie. Understanding a lot of the finer points of the movie (mostly on a philosopical level) requires some more involvement and thought.

Some people complained about certain things not being explained to their satisfaction, but it's mostly because the explanations are inferred rather than simply "given out"
  • Let's put it this way. A group of us at work took a long lunch to "attend an intrusion detection seminar". When we walked out of the theater after the film, we tried to talk about what had just happened. One of us trailed off in mid-sentence while walking through the lobby, and we were in silence all the way to the car, when somebody finally said "Holy shit, we're gonna need another three-hour 'meeting' just to debrief!" We all agreed that it was a good confused.

The bad reviews I've read fall into three g

  • I am going to go see in on sunday..

I have read the spoilers and lots of opinions...

I have decided that what I will do is go into the theater expecting to be hate the movie tremendously.. Which is not to hard after reloaded which I really did not enjoy very much, it took too much analysis.

That way no matter what I get I should be pleased. Or at least that is supposedly how this theory works. :)

Besides which, with the funeral tomorrow and all there is no way I can make it to a movie before the weekend,
    • I must say if Return of the King had opened last night... Well lets just say I have my priorities in order!

Ditto. I didn't take work off for either Matrix movies. I plan on missing a day for RoTK (although, I won't be doing the 12-hour 'Trilogy Tuesday' cause I don't think I can hand 12 hours of any movie), and our family is rotating who sees it and who watches the kids ;-)

That's the route I'm trying to take too. Hopefully it will tremendously exceed my abysmal expectations, so that I won't feel like I wasted time ore money.

P.s. Work still beating you up?

I seem to have hit on a semi popular thoght as far as this movie goes. :) Personally the money would have been spent on a movie more than likely but what I hate wasting is the time. Spare time to spend on *me* is in short supply these days, and will be more so going in to the new year. If this ends up being two hours that I regret spending on the movi
          • If this ends up being two hours that I regret spending on the movie it will really frustrate me, though I am expecting that from it.

And ironically, (though, does it really need to be said?) it could be that very expectation of frustration that saves you from the actual frustration of the event.
        • I just watched it, I went in with abysmal expectations and thought it was great, well compared to Matrix 2.

Expect the worse and you will love it.
        • Well, I don't expect any of the Matrix movies to be all that bad.

While I didn't have the "my head just exploded" feeling I had after the first 5 or so times I saw "the Matrix", "The Matrix Reloaded" was still a decent film and likely one of the few movies this year worth bothering to find a real theater to see it in.

BTW "The Matrix Reloaded" ROCKED in IMAX. If there is an IMAX theater showing "The Matrix Revolutions" go see it there. I just wish "The Return of The King" was being released in IMAX format.
          • Ooops ... sorry forgot to close my bold tag properly.
          • If at all possible everyone should see Revolutions in IMAX. The clarity and immersiveness is something to behold. My theater ran a trailer for something involving NASCAR and that's so much better than a 35mm print. It took up the entire 40 foot tall screen.

The movie I'd give a 6 out of 10. The action was as good as Reloaded. There was less philosophising, which is good. Unfortunately there are so many things wrong with these two movies that I can't consider them true sequels. Someone at Warner Bros.

I won't be taking off work for the movie, but I will see it in the evening. No midnight showing to be the first to see it this year. I have found (thankfully) that I am no longer conditioned for working a full day on three hours of sleep. But t
  • probably even if you only liked the second one a little bit. it isn't without things that could have been done differently, but all together i think it was enjoyable. i had a great time watching it.
