Journal Chacham's Journal: Slashdot Habits: Moving foes, profanity filter. 22
So, i had to remove more friends to make room for more foes. Too many foes. I wish this place had a profanity filter. Oh well.
Anyway, time to set up another user or two as profanity filters, and mod down foe of friend. I wonder if there's an easy way to transfer foes. Perhaps a perl script will do. I just wonder if
I guess it's not just the profanity that i don't want to see. There are three types of profanity users. Some, just to bother the user. The annoying ones. I don't want to see them at all. There is no point. Then, the proverbial "potty mouth". People who just use it all the time. Like the old Eddie Murphy, or Robin Williams. Unless i am told they are clean in a specific area, i think it best too keep away. The third, is the occasional. The occasional uses logic sometimes, but gets carried away in an emotional argument and starts using profanity. I don't want to see their profanity, and, i guess, i don't even want to see their argument, a profanity filter on some specific words won't help, because their entire post is just of no interest to me. Even blocking all their posts is fine, because as they get more serious, to the meat of a good argument, they get emotional and incoherrent.
There is another type. Similar to the occasional. However, they use profanity simply because it's there. They usually try to not use it, but it happens in conversation, and it doesn't bother them. They are not so much a "user" of profanity, more likely a slip. To those people, just having some plugin cover their words would be fine for me. I wonder if such a thing exists.
