      Interestingly enough, it's the one property I don't want any company to have with me, EXCEPT for the press. But true to form, it's backwards again.

      Yes, but it goes further back than that: it's the philosophy of Freud, later revolutionized and put to use by his nephew, Edward Bernays [wikipedia.org], author of Propaganda [wikipedia.org], which now goes by euphemisms such as "public relations" and "marketing," under the guise of advertising and political rhetoric.

      • You're only the third person I've ever encountered who has seen that BBC documentary. You, me, and the person who told me I needed to watch it back in the mid-2000s.

        It really is indispensable if you want to understand society circa 2013.

          I was led to Bernays > Propagana > BBC's CotS via one of Noam Chomsky's lectures (I can't remember which)... Do you have any recommendations of others' works worth reading/watching/listening to, covering the same or similar broad social/political/economic issues and/or mechanisms?
