Journal Patik's Journal: Another rejected submission posted anyway 5

So far I've submitted two polls and both were rejected then immediately posted to the main page with some slight modifications. First was the e-mail abuse poll, now the current beer type poll. In both cases a couple options were added and one was deleted, but the poll idea and a majority of the options were ones I submitted.

I guess if your submission isn't perfect for publication the editors reject it then submit their own. Oh well...

Another rejected submission posted anyway

  • its the way of publishing... trust me. When I was in school, and being a PR major, we were required to actually go out and do real PR work through externships (we actually had to have something like 100+ hours of *professional* experience in the field in order to graduate). Anyway, one of my best friends would write press releases, and have them printed VERBATIM in the local newspaper... oh, but the bi-line went to some flunky dipshit journalist.

Its how it works... hell, how'd you like to be a ghost writer

Your poll idea was accepted. The goofy way the slashcode software works causes it to appear as "rejected" on your submissions page (because if the editors want to edit it, it's easier to cut-and-paste it elsewhere rather than use the textbox containing your submission in the admin interface) but why does that matter? Did you expect to be paid for your contribution? I don't understand what the complaint is here.
    • I think he's just looking for some sort of fuzzy acknowledgement for his efforts - to sort of put to fear that his evil(er) twin isn't out suggesting similar (but better) ideas faster.
      • He got the amount of acknowledgement that is typical for polls. Maybe this sucks, but it's not a surprise, is it?
    • I'm not looking for a warm fuzzy. I am content enough seeing that this poll got 1000 comments in about 12 hours. Just curious why the admins must reject submissions and submit their own if they want to make some minor changes. I'm wondering if they make any changes to the main page submissions, or if they usually get enough submissions for each story that they can pick a submitter that worded it perfectly the first time.
