Journal LinuxHam's Journal: New TV Technology 2

I've been giving serious thought to getting one of those 42" HD-ready plasma flat screen tv's from Gateway. I decided to do at least a little bit of research, and I found an interesting article here.

For those (like me) who have been neck-deep into computers for over 20 years but know squat about all this new TV technology :)

  • I work in a science museum. We bought a ton of them for an exhibit about 3 years ago. All of them have been replaced a couple of times because the elements on a plasma TV white out over time.

You might get a few good years out of it if you use it occasionally to watch movies or sports. For everyday use it dies within months. Better to go with a projector that only needs a $600 bulb every once in a while.

    • Wow, thanks for the feedback. A friend did tell me over the weekend that they "need to be recharged" every few years, but his wife and I just passed that off as being a "feature" of the 1st generation models..

I have a room that would greatly benefit from a wall-mounted flat screen, but not much else.. our current tv just takes up too much space in our living room and would be a mess in the room I'm thinking of changing to a viewing room.

Thanks again for that handy piece of feedback!
