Linda Taylor was featured in the 19 DEC 1974 issue of Jet in a piece titled Alleged "Welfare Queen" Is Accused of $154,000 Ripoff. The flow of history has somehow penned Reagan with coining the term in 1976, although there is no evidence that he ever used it. David Weig

Linda Taylor was featured in the 19 DEC 1974 issue of Jet in a piece titled Alleged "Welfare Queen" Is Accused of $154,000 Ripoff. The flow of history has somehow penned Reagan with coining the term in 1976, although there is no evidence that he ever used it. David Weigel clings bitterly to a world where the only people defrauding the government are figments of his political opposition.

Your blog is mentioned in that post too. Apparently I am the first person to look at that December edition of Jet since it was published. Has anybody ever found an instance of Reagan saying "welfare queen" ever?

I've met Weigel. As with some of my sparring partners here, I have some weird regard for the guy.

I've met him too, as well as your partner in crime McCain at those Reason parties they had in DC several years ago. You don't have to agree with someone's politics to like them as a person.

My personal take is that Weigel is mercenary.

He would be a great mercenary, since he is absolutely the least soldierly person ever to work at Reason, and I am including EVERYBODY. Nobody would ever expect him.
