pudge's Journal: News You Should Know

You've probably not heard -- I've seen no stories on it yet and heard about it only on News Hour -- but the six-party multilateral talks about North Korea's nuclear program will resume on Feb. 25, again in China. I think this is far more important news than the primaries or ricin or whatever other else is going on ... but hey, what do I know?

The Japan Times mentioned it [japantimes.co.jp] earlier today. It's not obvious to me that the US has actually agreed (it's just the Norks saying so, right now) but the Japanese government seems to take it seriously.

I dont know... I felt much safer when I "didn't know" -- that all was right with the world -- when they were hiding behind a dark vail...

Then again, I felt the same way when North Korea was hiding behind a dark vail, too.

Yes, DPRK has a bargaining chip, but it is one they want to cash in. They have no money and no food. They want money and food. They will cash in their chip. The problem right now is they want to only FREEZE their program, but the good news is that in December, the US and China stood side-by-side and said nope, you gotta dismantle it.
