Journal ParticleGirl's Journal: A Failed Experiment in Sleep 5

I thought that sleeping 8 hours a night and trying to wake up and be out the door in under half an hour would be good for me. Get that "much needed" sleep. Train myself to be more of a quick, up-and-out-the-door kind of person. But I am finding that if I get more than 6 or 7 hours of sleep I am sluggish all day, and if I don't relax and wake up slowly in bed and the shower I am still sleepwalking 5 hours later. Bah.

  • Disclaimer: I ran a sleep lab for a while.

Not everybody needs 8 hours of sleep. That figure is often bandied about, but one should remember that 8hrs is an average. Folks are different in their needs and barring any sleep pathologies, we simply need to find out what works for us individually.

    • True that. I get 5 hours on average. That's the minimum I need. If I get 4.5, I'm dragging the next day. If I "sleep in", I usually sleep 7 hours. If I sleep 7.5, I'm tired the next day.
  • first thought that comes to mind is,"what are your _habits_ regarding sleep?
i know that for me, it's not enough to just get the proverbial eight - i have to get them regularly, consistently, not just once in a while. last last year, when i was having a shit time of things, i didn't see a real improvement until i had gotten enough sleep for seven days in a row, and it another week before i could say i was better and more time before i couls say that getting enough sleep was a habit. which i'm now out of, d
