LinkedIn: Like Orkut but for business only. Want an invite?

turg (19864) writes | more than 10 years ago

The Internet 13

I'm playing with a LinkedIn.com account. Similar to Orkut/Friendster/etc. but for business networking only. Looks significantly more sophisticated than Orkut or Friendster -- many more business/professional aspects to search by. Looks like it could be actually useful for drumming up business/contracts/employment.

Anyone want an invite? If so, I need your name and e-mail address. Use the comments or e-mail/IM me (or any other way you can come up with for getting the info to me).

Update: That's name and e-mail address.

How is this different/better than Ryze [ryze.com] ?

Never heard of Ryze before, but from a glance I'd say that LinkedIn is much more professional and sophisticated.

For example, one can specify whether one is using LinkedIn for (one or more of):
To find a job
To find consulting or contracting positions
To hire employees or contractors
To sell products or services to companies
To investigate deals with companies
To find information about industries, products, or companies
To find professionals interested in my new venture or product

You can choose to allow one or more of the following types of contacts:
Job offers
Contract or consulting offers
Inquiries about a position with me or my company
Deal proposals for my company
Requests for expertise about industries, products, or companies
Proposed discussions about new ventures or products

It also seems to be much more private than other networks of this type. By default only friends and friends-of-friends can even see your profile. There are no message boards about "Tahitian Noni Juice" or "Wild Business Women" -- actually, I don't think there are message boards at all.

His e-mail address is in the header of all of his posts. What new opportunity presented itself with this message?
