Journal WIAKywbfatw's Journal: Who's for Fantasy Baseball? Anyone? Anyone? 8

OK, so it's that time of the year.

I know some of you are into baseball, and I know some of you are into fantasy sports. So who's up for a little fantasy baseball?

I've been playing fantasy baseball for a couple of years now and it's only hightened my appreciation and enjoyment of the game. Yahoo has a nice system, which can be played for free, with either public or private leagues, default or custom scoring, rottiserie or head-to-head.

So who's up for a private head-to-head league? I'd favour Yahoo's default scoring system, but I'd probably replace AVG with OBP (on base percentage) so that walks counted for something, albeit in a small way.

So, that would be a league that scores Runs, Home Runs, RBIs, OBP (instead of AVG) for hitters and Wins, Saves, Ks, ERA and WHIP for pitchers.

(By the way, head-to-head is more fun, in my humble opinion, because you're matched up against a different opponent every week, thus presenting you with a fresh challenge every seven days, and because it avoids the "unwinnable race" type scenario that occurs way too often in rottiserie.)

So, who's up for it? Anyone? Anyone?

  • assuming the draft system could be worked out somewhat reasonably. I don't have a lot of time on the weekends to have a draft....

anyway, assuming the details work out, yeah, I'm down with it.
  • Who needs fantasy baseball - just watch the Yankees!

    • C'mon man, what do you have to lose?

You'll spend an hour and a half drafting, and a few minutes a day checking on your team but for that investment you'll gain hours of pleasure! Think of the warm glow you'll get when you sweep my team! Or how you'll be able to gloat and point at the real life standings if you're team's not doing so good!

It'll be a blast. Sure, we won't all be in the same room with a crate of suds but there's nothing stopping you from downing a brew whilst we draft. And they'll be plenty
  • I'm so out of touch with American sports these days that my fantasy team would almost certainly get hammered. (Pretty hard and pointless to follow a sport if you can't at least once in a while watch the games on TV.)

So while I'm still the proud owner of some Cincy Reds and Twins stuff,* I'd have to pass.

Same goes for my much more preferred sport, football. While I still try to follow it as best as I can, mainly through e-mail updates, I'm relatively clueless as to who the big stars are these days. Out o
