Seems like a lot of child-related news lately. I guess they're so fed up with adult violence, we now must now focus on child violence. Hey, why not start them young?
Age shouldn't be reported in most stories, as it usually isn't relevant, other than to get the reader to care.

I believe this is done when she becomes a teen. Similar to Arabs giving boys circumcisions at the age of thirteen. At that age, i wouldn't quite call her a child. She can make her own decisions to some extent. Though, it is nice that they are addressing the issue in the open. To me that's the most important part.
