Journal Troed's Journal: Think twice 9
I get all my old posts moderated down -1 Offtopic whenever a certain person gains moderator status (or if he has multiple accounts, I don't know). See my history for proof. I also get numerous replies to my signature attacking my person.
That's weird. It seems that USian Slashdot posters are like the rest of the american John Does - they actually believe that Israel is nice and that all arabs/muslims are terrorists. How come they're the only one with this view? How come there are daily protests in all big cities in Europe against Israeli warfare against Palestinians? How come food-chains in Norway are boycotting Israeli fruit because of this? How come USA is the only nation stopping UN from dealing correctly with Israel? How come myself - 27 year old Swedish white well-educated male with neither jews nor muslims as close friends give money to Palestinian help-organisations and actively in mail and in my Slashdot signature URGE people to actually learn the truth about the most serious conflict in the world themselves?
I know, do you? The last time this was brought up here at slashdot a USian slashdot poster told the moderators to mod myself and another poster down before we "strapped bombs to teenagers" or something as stupid.
Remember: Nelson Mandela was marked as a terrorist by the South African leaders, and put in prison. All freedom-fighters have been called terrorists. If you'd care to read up on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict we might have chance to stop the US arms supply to Israel. Rockets against rocks, you know.

Please feel free to continue, the only thing you've managed to prove is that you can't stand both sides having their views heard. Regarding the history of the region, I study religous history as a hobby - I'm quite sure my knowledge of Middle East history surpasses yours, and most people here.

The obvious counter-measure to your abuse is of course to have other persons moderate me up in response - I've chosen to alert the Slashdot crew instead. Not about the issue at hand, but at the possibility to supress free speech totally on Slashdot (which you readily admit to - "enjoy sharing it from -1 land"). How does it feel to publically admit you're not in favour of free speech? Are you sure Slashdot is the site for you?

Do you mod all posts down that has a signature not on-topic to the discussion at hand? If so - you must have a gigantic task ahead of you. I would suggest reading up on a bit of history on what a signature on the net usually consists of
You may debate this all you want, the ones reading this thread seem to agree with me that you are afraid of people reading a site not conforming to your views on the Middle East problem. Again, why is that so dangerous? Afraid fellow US-citizens all of a sudden will learn more about the subject?
free speech does not mean those around you have to listen.
True, so put me up as a "foe" and then go to preferences and select posts from foes to be automatically below your threshold. Don't try to mix what you don't want to see with what others shouldn't see according to you

Anyways the entire idea of sigs adding directly to the discussion is ludicrous. Not only for the varying format of the actual signature but the depth of concern for people involved beyond mere cursory rhetoric is a huge and often neglected luxury.
I mean I have a pro-life bumber sticker on my car and living in california I've been run off the road twice, honked at numerous times (often with tailgating), shouted at, spit at, and other novel ways of expressing nothing but contempt for me without once expressing anything but recklessness for their viewpoint. No one has ever simply said "I'm pro-choice" or "It's my body I can do what I want". I feel no need to relegate those with viewpoints dissimiliar to mine to that of a second class human being without rights to the security of the person in my extreme case or to Troed's freedom of speech in this case. What compells you to take such a position, who has denied you these rights and even if so why do you feel that Stoed must share your misery?
