Journal Organized Konfusion's Journal: Hey do you want to employ a good looking slacker? 14

Well i was thinking, how should I spend my summer holidays, its about 3 months and I would really like to spend it abroad, the only problem is that i cant speak any languages apart from english and Gujarati and very little French.

Heres where you come in, if you have any needs for a general techie read on..

I will pay for my own travel to where you are as long as the job is interesting and within my capabilities, i would like to get paid but if its in a nice place like Vegas then i might consider doing it for free.

What I am good at:
      Wireless networks
      General networking
Sysadmin stuff, sshd, derified smtp, mysql, apache, IIS, rdp and terminal services
      filters n shit
      driving

Wat i am ok at:
Programming, python, ada, bit of c++ java bit of C bit of VB
can pick up new languages very quickly.
        Business decisions and customer services
Getting rat arsed (like i am now)

What i am crap at:

          physical stuff

I will rewrite this journal when i am less drunk
but tonight was cool
i would really like to work abroad and get paid for it if possible, in America i need a J1 visa so its a bit difficult. it means i need a company to offer me a job before i can even come over there.
In the EC its easy i can work anywhere without telling anyone shit all. Anywhere else I don't have a clue but i would appreciate it if someone could provide information. There is still 1 and a half months left until my summer hols so no rush.

  • I wish I had a job to offer you.
    Seriously.
Just so we could get drunk together.
    *runs off for nuther beer*
    • Wishing I could give both of youse [you]a yawb [job], at least on a contract basis, just so we could all get together and get tanked :D I got nothing, but I am going to pass this on to a friend of mine and he _might_ be able to get something for you [California, Pasadena area] for a month or two. No promises though, but I'll try. Might involve going to Chili for a bit, any physics/astronomy background? I could clear out my study [read third bedroom filled with all my crap my wife doesn't like :D] for you to
      • To be honest I have no astronomy/physics backround, I did A-Levels in business (A), sociology (B), computing (B), maths (D :-( ).

Slashdot is great where else could you ask for stuff like this and get positive replies. I'd love to stay with you and would make sure I'd make it up to you. ha I laugh in the face of traffic and earthquakes :)
        • ha I laugh in the face of traffic and earthquakes :)Sweet! If you make over here I'll take you to our local Six Flags [sixflags.com]Traffic and 6.0's and below don't hold a candle to the fun.
I'd make it up to you. Just bring over some of the tasty European beer/bier/birra. All else failing bring over some Picco Rosso [piccorosso.com] from Italy { note:since you made me dig for the link [slashdot.org] I think you owe me a bottle anyway ;D.

  • Try the Isle of Man, we're not part of the UK or part of the EU, and everyone speaks English. You will need a work permit, but they are easy to get for IT and programming jobs.

There are three breweries and one distillery for a population of 78,000 so getting drunk isn't a problem, and the beer is good. There are also things like the TT/Manx Grand Prix/Southern 100/Jurby South road races which makes life a bit more interesting than your typical location.

If that's not foreign enough, try Jersey or Guernsey.
  • You uh.... posted a job request.... DRUNK?

HA! Slashdot is such a great place...

I note, however, that you said less drunk, suggesting that you expect to still be drunk in the morning. Beerios for breakfast?

  • Being in the EU, Lux would have been an easy target. Alas, I am not in a position where I can decide these things. I'm not a 100% sure that you would like to work for my company in the first place ;-)

Anyways, have you tried an Interim company. Perhaps they have jobs somewhere in Europe or can put you in contact with an Interim company in the country of your choice.

(Note: not sure if it is called "Interim company" in english. I'm taling about companies like Randstad [randstad.com] or Manpower [manpower.com])

    Good luck!

    • I have had a look on both sites and well the lux sites are in a language I don't understand. I'll make some enquries with the UK offices and see if they can work something out.

Is it possible to get by in lux only knowing English?
      • Is it possible to get by in lux only knowing English?

Only? Quite improbable... If you're lucky and find a place in a large english/american company it might be enough. Well, even with less, one of my dads best programmers (and since last week my neighbour) is English and I've never seen him talk anything else.
