Journal cptgrudge's Journal: /. low userid sellers 5

The campaign (and it is a campaign now) continues against dougman.

To see the issues I have with this user, see my first journal entry. Yet now there is another user, mfh, who is attempting the same thing. Luckily, the account has not yet been sold. The auction is here.

Slashdot user accounts with low userid numbers will be misleading to other users. Help stop this before it becomes common. Mark them Foes.

Dougman is one of my foes. Here is why.

  • You really judge people by their /. UIDs? I have some news for you: there have been lamers here since the very beginning. Some of them had 2-digit IDs.

Remember that /. had been going a long time before UIDs were added. Almost all the 3-digit ones were issued in the first few days.
    • I personally don't judge people by their /. UIDs. But I know that some people do, and a lot of people seem to give some sort of deference to low UIDs, even inexplicably congratulating them on it sometimes. I know it doesn't really matter in the long run, but even then might it be good to save some poor sap from buying something that doesn't matter?
      • I would think that if you've spent long enough reading /. to want a lower UID, you would have a pretty good idea of what it would be worth. dougman's auction in particular puts the auction in the correct context.
