Journal smittyoneeach's Journal: Should we just make UPS the government? 12

They have shown the wisdom in avoiding the Left:
http://priceonomics.com/why-ups-trucks-dont-turn-left/

UPDATE: Canning 250 drivers, including the King of Queens (not really)? FedEx laughs.

Update II: posting here since it was written, but some karma over-ran my dogma :-(

I support the right for a grand jury review of UPS every bit as much as in the case of Benghazi.

And if you don't support the right of all workers to seek union representation, then you don't support the right for any workers to choose union representation.

Covered here.

Should we just make UPS the government?

Comments Filter:
  • ... a very strong union presence. The unions that a very large portion of their workers are in don't seem to be destroying their company in the way you are so certain all unions inevitably do.
    • Distorter. I'm against public sector unions, and support UPS worker's right to do what they will.
      • The "public" sector is owned by the private sector. And people have the same right to organize no matter who they work for. I believe the 1st Amendment applies.

        • Yes and no. If your statement were completely true, then the military should also have a right to organize. But the UCMJ [wikipedia.org] prohibits that. So I'll accept that, while the civil servants can and do have a 1st Amendment right to organize, I'd explicitly disallow them. Milton Friedman [wikipedia.org]: "government agencies resemble economic "black holes" where increased 'inputs' lead to declining 'outputs'". Or maybe you see the cancerous growth of the federal government, with the Amorphous Care Act being one egregious example am
      • and support UPS worker's right to do what they will.

Except that you also support the "right" of management to can people with no advance notice for any - or no - reason, including over organizing into a union. If you don't support the right to seek union representation without fear of being fired for it, then you don't support unionization. And if you don't support the right of all workers to seek union representation, then you don't support the right for any workers to choose union representation.

    • See JE update.
    • RTFA- the UPS drivers are for right turn friendly routes because *they take longer* and thus *earn more hourly wage*, as proven by the Mythbusters.

  • What, Goldman Sachs, AT&T, and Exxon aren't good enough for ya?

And you see what happens when you go so far right? You end up with the 'opposition' anyway.
