Journal smittyoneeach's Journal: An old, ex-liberal, on the state of the Left 27

Roger Simon is a great American:

Interestingly, Simon assumes the "born that way" position on sexuality (I guess his son is gay).
As noted elsewhere, I think that's a rationalization. Then again, we'll see if either of my sons falls prey to this modern deception. I doubt I'd love them less, but I'll likely take it as a personal failure.

An old, ex-liberal, on the state of the Left

  • It's a downright dirty shame that you value conformity more than anything, to the point of denying the fact that genetics has any effect on the "choices" we make. I would have to say that you choose to remain clueless, unless you want to admit that religion is hereditary and can't be altered. Well, good luck on your mission of propaganda. It will interesting to see how things turn out.

I doubt I'd love them less...???

Talk about your non-committal! Towards your own child, no less... Yep, you definitely found

Free will doesn't exist? Or are you simply claiming that you are essentially a mindless automaton?

unless you want to admit that religion is hereditary

      Religion is a personal choice.

      and can't be altered

Well, the Almighty himself says He is eternal and unchanging (as He is perfect), so why would there be a need for religion to be altered?

Churches adapt, and some language gets clarified, but the core tenets o
      • Free will doesn't exist?

It doesn't matter. It still comes from the brain, just like your deities. All in man's image. So, if you imagine "him" to be perfect, then "he" is perfect, whatever your version of "perfect" is. I see nature as perfectly incorruptibly indifferent. The rules are absolute and inviolable, and we live within them whether we like it or not.

Churches adapt because they want money...

It's a downright absurd outburst of silliness that you contend conformity is bad.
      Do you deny 2+2=4
      Do you drive against traffic?
Do you stick your head in a toilet and inhale a bowlful?

Of course you don't. Conformist swine. Stay beautiful.

    • Genetics has an effect on the choices we make. Knowing that, means we can make different choices.

      • I don't deny effects, but I'm anxious that no one this side of a case of Down's Syndrome has any sort of excuse before God.
  • Same sex attraction is not sin, it is temptation.
It is not sinful to be tempted, it is only sin when you act on it.

I find women attractive. If I act on that attraction with a women who is not my wife, I have sinned. Same goes for people with same sex attraction -- it's not sinful until they act on it.
    • Strong concur. But it gets stronger when you consider the unintended consequences of the notion that sexual orientation is either a social construct or that homosexuality is hard-wired.
      • You have chosen to remain ignorant of scientific consensus. Oh wait, it's true, the gay mafia got to them too, right?

        • Beat me with a hockey stick, baby.
          • Eh, you're probably right. Everybody's been bought, including the church of course. They're pretty good at hockey too.

            • I'm confident that my local New Testament Church, at least, remains un-bought.
The rest of "christendom" is a crap shoot.
              • Your confidence is based on trust, not knowledge. You trust that your church remains un-bought. Judging by my assumption that it is a very small church, your trust can be well placed, maybe... But the big ones, with all their clout? Worse than Washington DC... no, sorry, merely the same, same ambitions, same goals as any large institution will have. Nature on parade.

How would I begin to know? Except to know that God knows, and will ultimately crush the false.
