Journal smittyoneeach's Journal: Benghazi 14

Mighty nice of Boehner:

The administration has not told the American people the truth about Benghazi.
We've been going through all of these hearings, having to hold people in contempt, because they've made it impossible to get to the documents.
They have not been forthcoming. They owe the American people the truth.
And when it comes to Benghazi, we've got four Americans who are dead, and their families deserve the truth about what happened. And the administration refuses to tell them the truth.

Well, I sure am glad that I didn't waste any time on a fool's errand reading Pravda on the Hudson (NYT) or "Dingy Harry's Tale of the Fairy" on the topic of Benghazi.
Not that I doubt that Boehner, himself, doesn't know more than HE is telling, too. If he REALLY had his panties abunch, he might have brought HR36 to a vote.

  • Boehner is just posturing to make sure his constituents remember him in November. He's just hoping that none of them are bothered by the contradiction of a conservative demanding more government spending on something that was already done, though without a defined endpoint on the work he is asking for.
    • Doubtless there is some merit to your re-election point, but I object to "just", and still want to see HR36 put to a vote.

Thank you. However unlike you I suspect Boehner has actually read the existing reports.

and still want to see HR36 put to a vote.

And then what is your next plan to have Obama thrown out when HR36 fails to do it? How many Benghazi investigations do you want the taxpayer to pay for?

What difference, at this point, would it make? Lame Duck Biden vs. Dame Luck Obama? What matters now is sowing the seeds of reform.

Your actions do not seem to be in line with that goal. You are currently calling for the consumption of millions - if not billions - of federal dollars in investigations that are politically motivated and driven by nothing more than "because I want to see this investigated". Eventually you will have completely discarded the legal system in your unending desire to throw out Obama.

This does not sow the seeds of reform. This sows the seeds of revenge. Eventually the shoe will be on the other foot and

"Reform" is such an interesting word. The Latin roots of "reform" means, "grab your ankles".

The neoliberal "reform" you're touting would be even more disastrous than the current disaster.

I'm pretty sure that if we ever see "reform" it will not come from anyone who is currently holding elected office in America today. And it certainly won't come from anyone on the far Right.

  • I did look into this a bit, sparked by your earlier JE, and I suspect what Boehner is alluding to is its involvement in shipping arms to destabilize Syria, no?
    • Everybody's mad at the CIA right now

    • I think Boehner is briefed to significant detail on matters. If his level of knowledge, and the fact that he sat on info that may have impacted the 2012 election were known, he might be in deep Holder.
