I'm just now looking at the extra Slashdot features that have been here for... how long? I really have no idea, a long time maybe. I knew in a vague way about the journal but I didn't know what the rest was for.

The fact that I have "fans" and "freaks" is somehow really amusing. I suppose if I declare war on some "foes" life will be complete. Losers.

I don't use the friends/fans/foes/freaks points adjustments, but then I browse at zero. I do know some people who use those functions and browse at 1. Mostly, I see people using Friends to keep track of others journals and Foes to prevent others from posting in their journal.
