Journal FortKnox's Journal: Football: Notes on the weekend 8

No, this isn't a "Time to come clean" JE ;-)

Philly looked HOT: But, they were playing the Giants. Sorry, consider it a preseason game with Philly's first team playing second and third stringers. Also, the three touchdown passes to TO? Umm, bad idea... now he'll expect that kinda stuff.

Skins vs Bucs: Washington D looks fine, O looks good, and TB looks flat out bad. For some reason, I don't have pleasure in seeing TB lose, cause I can't hear Warren Sapp cry about it afterwards.

Cincy vs Jets: The Cincy O line looked terrible. Rudi ran for hardly nothing. They made adjustments to the line in the 3rd quarter that helped, but by that time, they needed to throw because they were running behind. Jets O line, on the other hand, looked fantastic. Someone needs to remind Curtis Martin of his real age. Jets D looked solid. Good cover-2 combined with lotsa pressure. Cincy D-line was pushed around and the LBs weren't making good angles. The DB were exposed, but once Deltha O'Neil returns, the DBs will be good. I think I'm almost willing to put the Jets over the Pats in my prediction, now.

Browns vs Ravens: Browns played great Defense. The O didn't click till late. The Ravens D looked young and inexperienced. But, this was a game about emotions. The Browns were torched by Jamal Lewis last year and this is a rivalry game (lotsa those in the AFCN). I'm guessing they'll return to earth against the Cowboys. I'd really like to see Kyle Boller throw lotsa passes against the Steelers next week, though :-D

Steelers vs Raiders: The Steelers controlled the first half until the very end. Ground game was decent, Maddox didn't make mistakes, the defense was stiffling. This broke down in the second half, but they squeaked the win off. Next week they won't have to play against a great QB like Gannon, so I think the win vs Baltimore won't be tough.

San Diego vs Houston: I think the Texans just became Bolts fans. Why? Cause if the Bolts do like everyone predicts (thats a whole lotta losin), the Texans just became the losers bitch.

Fantasy Football: The Plus league is coming. Paypal hasn't released the cash to me, and I'm tapped out until payday (wednesday). Will have it setup before next weekend. WIAK and Eggman still owe me, FYI.

FK picks up on the BIG problem with Philly: TO's expectations. What happens when a really good defense shuts him down and 2 or 3 other guys get the glory? Or when Philly is losing and Andy doesn't call on him? Bottom line, when will TO burst?

    With that said, Phill

    • Ok. So, I lambasted the Broncos after letting Portis go... and then yesterday Quetin Griffin goes in for 2TDs and 156 yards. Mike Shanahan is by far one of the best NFL couches around.

Exactly. Shanahan knew he could make another 1k rusher (he's done it every year). A shutdown corner (maybe the best in the league, otherwise a top 5) is tough to come by. I think the Bronc's got the better end of the deal, honestly.

Is this entry why you deleted you JE??
  • might have a solid shot against the Cowboys. The Cowboys still lacked the ability to run and were unsuccessful in getting anything out of their passing. The Browns might be able to repeat the pressure they got on Boller.

And their defense might be stung by the points the Vikes put up, but they still then in the class of Baltimore and the others. They aren't anything monstrously dominant ala '00 Ravens or '03 Bucs.

If Garcia can keep his team away from turnovers, the Browns might do alright.
  • I've never used PayPal before and I had to set up a new account. PayPal UK's basic service only accepts Direct Debit payments from a bank account, so I had to request a DD be set up, etc and this takes way too long.

I've chased it up today but it looks as if someone somewhere screwed up because their verification process, which should have been over and done with by now, has still not run its course.

As soon as I'm able to put funds in the account (and I'm now chasing this up daily) I'll get the money to yo
    • No problems, dude... just need to keep a tally, cause I lost my 'paid' list last year.

And remember how the Bills knocked the Pats out their first game? This is just week 1.... then again, the Texans looked like pansies, which is probably the biggest surprise to me.
  • San Diego vs Houston: I think the Texans just became Bolts fans...

It was bad, but it wasn't that bad. The two interceptions completely killed us! The fumbles didn't help much, either. Plus, the lights went out for a while in thge stadium. That totally stalled things while the Texans were working on a huge stop. Side note: Reliant is the Power Co. for the Houston area. The only good thing about a loss is laughing everytime I see the Dom Capers "Meltdown in progress" face. Just watch one losing game, and
