Oh dear... a slashdot article lambasting a commercial site for being down after a monthly update.
I seem to remember a site with weekly updates that usually break all over the place (due to lack of testing). At least this is paypal's first problem in many many years....Oh dear... a slashdot article lambasting a commercial site for being down after a monthly update.

Why me? (1)

Why am I the only one who doesn't get this FK?

First of all, the article wasn't lambasting paypal.

Secondly, I'd have to say Paypal has a *bit* higher priority in the scheme of things than Slashdot.

Yes, I think that Slashdot personnel are somewhat cavalier in their patching/testing; however, I would not consider having 4 nines of uptime a critical thing with Slashdot. I would never approach upgrades the way they do, but, then again, I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Never did get all the griping about a simple blog/geek news site.

Lethal Weapon 2 immediately comes to mind...

As for the Slashdot article, relax. Someone obviously submitted the story, so it's not a direct accusation on the part of Slashdot. Also, Slashdot doesn't deal with millions of dollars worth of transactions each day, like PayPal does.

OTOH, Slashdot does take many users' mental well-being to task after a few minutes of 503's. There should be a Surgeon General's warning on every IP packet. :)

Hey, FK (1)
