Journal Apreche's Journal: Show of Courage 5

Jon Stewarts appearance on Crossfire made me lose a lot of hope I previosuly had for the future of our society. However, I also have come closer to finalizing an idea I have had on a possible way to bring real debate and enlightenment to the people. So here is my new blog entry called show of courage. Tell me what you think about it. If I can get enough interested manpower to start it up, I might consider actually executing one of my ideas for a change.

  • Personally, it made ME feel one hell of a lot better about our future. John Stewart tore them (rightly) to pieces, on national TV, and got away with it. Ok, so he's probably now banned from CNN for life, but the fact is, he got to make his points, and the people got to hear him. I think he did a great service for the country there.
    • True. I just wish I knew what those anchormen where thinking. I imagine they were intelligent enough to understand what Jon was saying. And I imagine they had to be intelligent enough to realize he was right and they were wrong. I just can't fathom what is motivating them so much not to give into the good. • Fall back on true, but anecdotal, evidence; or
    • Tell the truth, but omit a critical piece of information; or
    • Tell the truth in a way that implies a linkage between statements, where the implied linkage itself is misdirection.

I came across a web page a while back that discussed the

    • Yes, we all know these "loopholes" and debate tactics. Calicles knew it a zillion years ago. However, on the show as I imagine it, people will point out the use of these tactics. Let me give example.

      if someone does:
      * Fall back on true, but anecdotal, evidence

Then the other guy will point out the anecdotalness. While this is a good tactic to avoid lying while simultaneously convincing, it leaves you wide open for anyone with debate skill to bowl you over.

      * Tell the truth, but omit a critical piece of info
