Vi is installed on HP-UX machines by IT with system image. Emacs is not. Users, even local root users, are not able to cleanse machines except of the actual vi executable (/bin/vi). Emacs depot file does not install, Emacs does not compile!!!! When Judgement comes, Unix support group will pay dearly.

What profit a user to gain a few megabytes of RAM and lose his immortal soul? Do you not know that Emacs must be greater than sinful vi and all its foul progeny? Start Emacs, praise be upon it, and type:
M-x viper-mode
Now the evil that is vi is before you, but it contained in all the most excellent and wonderful Emacs, praise be upon it. Can foul vi do such a thing - contain the Glorious Editor within its dark process? Of course
