Journal whiteranger99x's Journal: Select 1 Player or 2 Player and press Start 7

*presses UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START*

*gets 30 lives instead of 3*

That "Fixing That Old Game System" article reminded me of the hell[1] I've endured when playing my NES games. No no no, I don't mean they were horrendous by any means, but rather getting some of them to work as years went by. Mainly either having to load and reload the cartridge and yes, even blowing the cartridge to get them to work. My ultimate nightmare[2] was when I played through Dragon Warrior 3 and I tried to load it up and something caused the damn battery to clear out my save games! X(

1] Hell = possibly overblown definition used to mean annoyance.
2] Nightmare = possibly overblown definiton used to mean agony from aformentioned disaster.

  • I always typed up up down down left right left right b a b a select start... Do you mean I hit an extra button for all those years? Man..

Emulation is king though... I recently loaded River City Ransom the other day... good times... good times.
    • Only if you wanted 2 players. IF you left out the select, you played single player.
    • Don't feel too bad I never knew about these cheats. I did however know how to get to world eight in like four levels. 2-1 Warp -> 4-1, 4-2 Warp -> 8-1. Though I suppose everyone knew about that too.
      • Ah yes, but do you remember how to get the warp whistles in Super Mario Bros 3? ;)
      • I think the Up Up Down Down thing was for Konami only games. Like Life Force, Contra, etc. At least back then it was easy to remember these things. Nowadays... like in GTA-Vice City, ya gotta remember where the Pay and Spray shop is if the cops are after ya, and the 15 multi-key button code to get all weapons lol.
        • Funny you mention GTA, I remember playing GTA3 one time, and I was doing the mission where you jack a mob boss's car and take it to have a bomb rigged on it...well, I put it back and got out...BUT I didn't get it in JUST right, so it didnt count. So I went *BACK* in the car and... KABOOM!!

          Wasted! :P
